Blood River: Drama Info and Recap Episodes 1 to 8

22 min read

Introduction

As a prequel spin-off to The Blood of Youth ( 少年歌行 ), Blood River takes place in an assassin guild known as Dark River, which is controlled by three powerful clans: the Su, Mu, and Xie families. This creates a complex and politically charged world from the outset, with a multitude of new characters and their clan allegiances. The first few episodes introduce this vast ensemble quickly, which can be confusing. Me too, I had no idea who’s who and why I should care about certain characters besides the leading actors and actress. The same happened when I watched The Blood of Youth and its prequel, Dashing Youth ( 少年白马醉春风 ).

First things first, the Dark River is the official English name of this assassin group, from the native name An He (暗河), which means “underground river”. The Blood River is the official English title that also translates to the name of this group in the drama. So, don’t be confused, Blood River and Dark River are the same.

Luckily, after the first five or six episodes of this drama, the narrative begins to settle and focus more on the core relationships and main issues. So, don’t give up early! And I hope this episode recap series will help you go through the plot.

I like this featured image. It’s not only because it’s the official drama poster or the leading actor, but because in the background are the Spider Shadow Assassins, who are loyal to the Male Lead. They are also part of the reasons why Su Muyu embarks on a journey of transformation. Unfortunately, after the new Blood River Guild is introduced, the Spider Shadow Assassins unit is dissolved. Below is the poster of him, his patriarch Mu Mingce, and his twelve assassin subordinates from the Spider Shadow Unit, which he led.

Enjoy, and hopefully the drama won’t be confusing anymore to you!

Synopsis

Blood River is the realm’s most feared assassin guild, jointly run by the Su, Mu, and Xie clans. They can strike royals in court and crush great sects in the wild. When the patriarch is poisoned on a mission, the three clans vie for the top seat. Su Muyu leads the Spider Shadow Unit and shields the dying leader on the road to a cure. He clashes with elder Su Zhe and his old friend, Su Changhe, and meets the master healer, Bai Hehuai. After brutal power struggles, Su Chang He becomes the new patriarch, and Su Muyu heads the Su clan. They launch the “Other Shore Plan” to drag Blood River out of the shadow and forge a new destiny, free from being anyone’s blade. (Source: MyDramaList)

Characters

Main Characters

Gong Jun ( 龚俊 ) as Su Mu Yu aka “Kui” (Puppet)

Originally named Zhuo Yuean, he was born as the young master of Wujian City. Due to family misfortunes, he became an unknown member (Nameless) of the Su family in the Dark River.

He was taught by his father’s principles of loyalty and promise keeping, adhering to the “Three No-Acceptance” ironclad rule—never slaughter an entire family, never kill the innocent, and never betray his conscience.

He is “Puppet,” the leader of the Spider Shadow Assassins group, the Dark River patriarch’s elite bodyguards. He is skilled in using an umbrella and concealing a sword to set up the Eighteen Sword Formation.

Later, he became the new head of the Su family.

Chang Hua Sen ( 常华森 ) as Su Chang He

A key member of the Su family, known for his skill with a greatsword and his role as the “Undertaker.”

He is a complex character who makes morally questionable choices, which makes him both a brother and a nemesis to Su Muyu. He secretly practices the Yama Palm and often uses the Inch Finger Sword.

Later, he becomes the new head of the Dark River Clan.

Yang Yu Tong ( 杨雨潼 ) as Bai He Huai

The legendary healer of Medicine King Valley, and Xin Baicao’s junior. Her medical skills are so superb that she was famous as the “Miracle Physician”.

She is sought out by Su Muyu to cure the critically ill patriarch of the Dark River.

Later, she became a key external character in the guild and helped cure other Dark River members as well as outsiders involved in the story.

Although the characters Mu Yumo, Mu Xuei Wei, Tang Lian Yue, and even Su Zhe were listed as main characters on some sites, in my opinion, only Su Muyu, Su Changhe, and Bai Hehuai, who mostly appear and have the key roles in the drama.

Supporting Characters

Below are some significant supporting characters.

Mu Yu Mo / Rabbit / Spider Maiden (Peng Xiao Ran) – one of the twelve Spider Shadow Assassins, Mu Yu’s subordinate

Tang Lian Yue (Zhang Shi An) – Xuanwu Guardian of Tianqi City from Tang Clan

Su Zhe (Qiao Zhen Yu) – The Su Family elder and Bai Hehuai’s father, also the previous “Puppet.”

Mu Ming Ce (Geng Le) – The patriarch of the Dark River, later passed away.

Mu Xuei Wei / “Poison Blossom” (Snow Kong / Kong Zu Er) – Mu family member

Mu Qing Yang (Gao Jin Cai) – the new Mu family head

Xiao Ruo Feng / Prince Langya (Bai Shu) – The Emperor of Beili Kingdom’s younger brother

Li Han Yi (Zhang Wei Na) – A prominent and powerful swordswoman, known as “Xueyu Sword Deity”

Relationship Chart

Now let’s go through these many supporting/guest characters. Two relationship charts are presented below. Unfortunately, there is no translation. There is a helpful character breakdown by the three families and arc/place, with the actors’ and actresses’ names, on DramaWiki.

After watching the entire drama, I know who is who in both relationship charts. For the sake of those who haven’t watched it, I will not detail these characters below because there are too many, thus confusing. So, I only break the characters based on the groups.

However, I assure you, if you only focus on the main characters and important supporting characters I detailed above, you’ll be fine.

The Old Blood River Guild

Above Su Muyu are all the families with their heads and key members: the Xue, Mu, and Su.

On the far left, from top, is the Patriarch when the drama starts. Below him are the three officials from The Soul Reaper’s Halll, who are the ‘middlemen’ between the group and its customers.

To Su Muyu’s top left is the Baihe Medicine Hall, including Bai Hehuai, who is later his lover.

To Su Muyu’s right are his family: his father and his brothers from the Su family.

To Su Muyu’s bottom left is from Tang Clan, with its hero becoming romantically entangled with Su Yumo.

The New Blood River Guild

On the second relationship chart, notice that Su Muyu has changed. He wears lighter colors, and he smiles more. The new days under the sun have come. The second relationship chart is a bit confusing to explain because most of the characters below are from the groups of people that the guild comes to know after the old Blood River is gone.

On the top left are the new Blood River leaders, including key supporters.

On the bottom left are more supporters.

Right below Su Muyu is his father. At the bottom are some key characters from Wushuang City and Tang Clan arcs.

On Su Muyu’s right are the so-called founders of the Blood River: three grandmasters of the Su, Mu, and Xue families.

On the top right are the Beili Kingdom imperial families. Below them are the guardians of Tianqi City, the capital of Beili. And on the bottom right, some of the Deities: the Sword Deities and the Spear Deity.

My Rating

My rating for this drama was based on MyDramaList’s scoring system, which is from 0.0 to 10.0. For any drama/movie/show I completed, I gave a minimum rating of 6.0 to appreciate the hard work of the production team, and to adjust to MyDramaList’s overall score base. From 6.0, this drama has additional scores of:

1.0 for the drama theme, tight plot, and dialogues (helmed by the novel author as the leading screenwriter).

1.0 for the colorful characters, the First and the Second Male Leads’ opposite characterization, and the found family dynamics. I will remember Su Muyu and Su Changhe’s characters for a long time.

1.0 for the cinematography, the intricate costumes, and the fighting action choreography.

0.5 for how the novel author/screenwriter ended the drama. You can read the ending in Episode 38 in the fourth/final recap article .

0.5 for the emotional watching experience (I watched this as the drama was airing): the angst, anticipation/excitement, and each episode ends with cliffhangers.

My final rating is 10/10.

Recap Episodes 1 to 8

Episode 1

Narration: The jianghu world, Beili Kingdom, was vast and turbulent. Its geography: South: Xueyue City. East: Wushuang City. Together with the Tang Clan and other sects, they built the order. However, beneath the brilliance, there were shadows: Blood River, the most mysterious assassin guild. Once you joined the guild, you only lived as someone’s blade. Still, some seek light in the dark, hoping to reach the shore amidst the raging currents. The tide of Blood River began to surge once more.

While Su Muyu was contemplating the purpose of holding a sword, his aide reported something important. Muyu donned the mask and left. His boss, Mu Mingce, had a long-awaited duel with the second master of Tang Clan, and both were seriously injured. Muyu showed up, telling his boss that someone wanted to kill him. At this moment, several crossbow arrows suddenly flew out from the darkness and shot them. The second master of Tang Clan died, but Muyu managed to save his boss. Mu Mingce didn’t want to return to the headquarters because he knew the assassins must be sent by the clans that would fight for the leadership once he died. Instead, Mu Mingce asked Muyu to find his old friend, the Medicine King Bai Hehuai, who could cure him.

The Soul Reaper’s Hall, the three high officials in the Blood River guild, thought that it was time for a new leader. So they announced to the three families that whoever could obtain the Sleeping Dragon Sword first, which at this time was in Mu Mingce’s hand, could be the next head of the guild.

Su Changhe showed up in front of Baihe Medicine Hall, where our cute physician lived, with his martial arts uncle Su Zhe, to kill Bai Hehuai, so the Medicine King wouldn’t be able to cure the patriarch. [My note: this Uncle Zhe turned out to be Hehuai’s father, but of course he didn’t know at this time. He abandoned his wife and daughter for the assassin job]. Hehuai noticed that they were up to no good and looked down at her, so she lied she was just the Medicine King’s disciple and that her master was out. On her way out, Muyu showed up, too. Hehuai got a letter that her friend would come, so she went with Muyu to see Mingce.

After tricking people left and right, Bai Hehuai finally met the patriarch of the Blood River

Mingce and Hehuai seemed to have known each other since she was little and he was young. After checking Mingce, she identified that the poison was created by the second master of Tang Clan. So naturally, he was the only one who could cure Mingce. Alas, Mingce killed him! Hehuai declared that she could cure Mingce, but asked for a lot of money, hahaha! Muyu thought that they should see her master instead, but Mingce gave a hearty laugh, and introduced Muyu to the King of Medicine herself: Bai Hehuai! I liked Bai Hehuai already; although she was scared of these assassins, she was still so cool and easy-going. She was a good match for the stiff and cold Su Muyu!

While eating dinner, Hehuai deduced that Muyu was Kui, the leader of the Spider Shadow Assassin Group. He asked where the former Kui was, because that guy was her father. Unfortunately, Muyu didn’t know. Hehuai told him about the two people she met. Upon hearing her description, Muyu realized the ruthless Changhe and Uncle Zhe were on their way to assassinate his boss, so he sent them away with his subordinates.

Once the subordinates had gone to escort the patriarch and Hehuai, the people from the Xie family came to fight him, but they were no match for him, so they retreated. Changhe came and tried to persuade Muyu to side with the Su Family. Muyu didn’t budge, so Changhe fought him.

Episode 2

Once Changhe identified that the man behind the mask was none other than his old friend Muyu, Changhe reminded him of their pact four years ago. They agreed that Changhe would pave the way for Muyu to be the Blood River leader while Changhe would be the head of the Su family. But now, Muyu felt indebted to the patriarch who gave him a home and a family. Changhe scoffed that for him, the guild was only a mere business relationship. The organization trained them, and in turn, they kill for the organization. Changhe left Muyu after urging him to think about the future.

Su Muyu and Su Changhe: tried-and-true friends for fifteen years

Their friendship started way back then, fifteen years ago. At that time, Changhe was almost dead, and he was saved by Muyu. They helped each other during the assassin training until the final test which they were put in a group together to kill each other, and only one could survive. Muyu didn’t want to kill Changhe, so Changhe wanted to kill himself. Muyu saved him and declared they both should be alive, and he would talk to the patriarch. And here they were, both still alive.

There were a lot of parties chasing the entourage: the three assassin families, and also the Tang Clan, because the patriarch had killed their second master. From this clan, came Tang Lian Yue, whose martial arts skill was supposedly on par with Baili Dongjun and Sikong Changfeng, according to Changhe (more about them in Dashing Youth).

No worries, the beautiful Rabbit, Mu Yumo, left behind to stop Tang Lianyue (and in the process will fall in love with him), while the rest of the Spider Shadow Assassins escorted the patriarch and the physician to their sanctuary, the Spider’s Nest.

Episode 3

Tang Lianyue didn’t like killing, but Yumo was trapped in fire if not for her martial arts brother Muyu saving her. Yumo was confident that Lianyue fell for her at first sight, hahaha. The ever-serious Muyu went down to business, telling Yumo that there must be a mole inside the Spider Shadow Assassins, because Changhe seemed to know wherever they went. Yumo teased Muyu that she might be the mole, because she started wondering about their existence. She asked, would Muyu fight his best friend Changhe?

Muyu had adhered to the strong principle taught by his (biological) father: never slaughter an entire family, never kill the innocent, and never betray his conscience. He refused the Soul Reaper’s Hall’s task to kill an innocent and upright official. Muyu didn’t know that after he left, Changhe came and offered to take the task on Muyu’s behalf. In fact, every task Muyu refused, Changhe accepted for him.

Finally, the entourage arrived at Spider’s Next in Jiuxiao City, not without any ambush from their followers. The patriarchal position was so coveted that even Mu Mingce knew about it and was even suspicious of the old housekeeper at the sanctuary.

With her injury, Yumo knew she slowed down Muyu’s intention to reach their patriarch asap, so she proposed to leave behind and delay Tang Lianyue with her charm. Muyu continued his journey after leaving his martial arts sister with some protection. Lianyue didn’t have the heart to kill Yumo, and he tended to her wound instead.

At the sanctuary, Hehuai saw an assassin sneak in. With her limited martial arts and lots of self-made traps, she blocked the assassin while trying to reach the emergency bell. The assassin was none other than Changhe!

Episode 4

Luckily, Muyu arrived in time, or Hehuai would be dead! Changhe was indeed targeted to kill her, not the patriarch. Muyu was suspicious that someone leaked Changhe the info on how to get into the sanctuary. Changhe said, everyone in the Spider Shadow Assassins was loyal to Muyu, not the patriarch. The latter was old and injured; time for a leadership change. Changhe left, and Hehuai disliked Changhe because he wanted to kill her!

Changhe went to see the injured Yumo, who was with Lianyue at an inn. This Changhe apparently had unrequited feelings toward Yumo. He mocked her when she told him she liked Lianyue, having changed her feelings from Muyu to Lianyue.

Indeed, there was a traitor, who was none other than Chou Niu, aka Ox. Ox also begged Muyu to take the leadership position, which the latter refused. Later, Ox was killed by the Xie family, because he refused to betray Muyu. Muyu vowed his subordinates to avenge Ox.

Episode 5

In the evening, the youngsters from the Mu and Xie families attacked the Spider’s Nest to get the patriarch’s sword and fought the Spider Shadow Assassins. Changhe, the youngster from the Su family, was relaxing at the inn, waiting for everyone to die. Muyu and the housekeeper faithfully guarded the room for the patriarch, who was in the healing session with Hehuai.

Hehuai managed to enter the patriarch’s mind and saw a hell full of a bunch of dead bodies. Indeed, he had killed hundreds of people! She then saw a living man with the patriarch and remembered that the man was the old guy whom she met with Changhe at the Baihe Medicine Hall. The man begged the patriarch to leave the guild to be with his wife and daughter, but his plea was rejected. Upon mentioning his wife and his daughter’s names, Hehuai was shocked to find out that the man was his father! She returned to consciousness and faced the sickly man in front of her with a dilemma, since he was the one who had separated her father from her and her mother! The patriarch woke up too, and was suspicious of Hehuai and wanted to kill her.

The last of the leading characters showed up, and she was Mu Xuewei. She had a crush on Muyu, so she didn’t want anyone to kill him. However, when she saw Hehuai, she also wanted to kill the physician. Hehuai was pissed because she was attacked left and right, and Muyu had promised to guard her with his life. In chaos, Hehuai fell into a trap hole that led a long way down. Muyu jumped down following Hehuai, and caught her with his umbrella, and the two went down like Mary Poppins.

Xuewei threw her poison flower into the hole to kill Hehuai, but the physician easily neutralized it. Hehuai also had guessed that Xuewei was full of poison, because she had overdone her training in the past. Seeing that the physician was knowledgeable, Muyu begged her to cure Xuewei one day. Although Hehuai was reluctant, she finally agreed. She also secretly guessed that Xuewei liked Muyu.

The hole led to a long passage all the way to outside the city. Although Hehuai used the Su’s family techniques when she defended herself yesterday and today, Muyu didn’t want to pry into her secrets. Although Hehuai didn’t reveal to Muyu that Uncle Zhe was her father, she told Muyu that she went into the patriarch’s mind and met Uncle Zhe. She could guess that her father was the former Kui. Usually, the Kuis had to follow the patriarchs to their deaths. Uncle Zhe was granted retirement instead, because he was badly injured saving Mu Mingce. Hehuai was sad that her father didn’t want to leave the Blood River Guild to reunite with his wife and daughter.

After all the battle, Changhe leisurely woke up and took Uncle Zhe to find Muyu and Hehuai outside the city, where the narrow passage led to.

Episode 6

I guess the passage was long enough, after walking and talking for a while, Hehuai finally let her guard down and revealed to Muyu that Uncle Zhe was her father. Muyu said that the clan members were strictly forbidden to marry outside the clan, which was probably the reason Uncle Zhe didn’t look for his family, because Hehuai’s mother was a foreigner. He quickly revealed that he was not a Mu Clan member, to Hehuai’s relief. He was a Nameless, an orphan boy taken in by the clan, trained to be an assassin, and took the surname of one of the families. He became a Kui because of a special circumstance; there was no one the patriarch appointed to. He always wanted to hand over the position, but the patriarch disagreed.

I knew it… these three officials from The Soul Reaper’s Hall were indeed the bad guys! Their original intention was not to guide the Blood River Guild but to let the Su, Mu, and Xie families kill each other to weaken their power. The officials found out that over the years, they became more and more disobedient. They wanted to pick an obedient person for them to control. I had a hunch they wanted to make Changhe their person and break the friendship between him and Muyu.

Muyu and Hehuai arrived at the end of the tunnel. Muyu walked out first to check the situation, while Hehuai hid in the tunnel. Soon, he was surrounded by the Mu family members. Changhe was held by the Mu family elder, too, which made Uncle Zhe free to reach Hehuai to kill her. He pretended to help Muyu, but secretly pulled Hehuai out of the tunnel. To defend herself, Hehuai used a secret technique Uncle Zhe taught his wife, Wen Luojin, so he was curious about her identity. Remember, Hehuai’s surname was Bai, so nobody could figure out her family. She picked that name herself.

Uncle Zhe was happy to see his daughter, even if she called him Scummy Father, hahaha! He asked Muyu to deal with the Mu family members, while he tried to talk to his daughter. Uncle Zhe reasoned that after being released by the patriarch, he went to look for his wife and daughter at the Wen family. His wife was sick, and his father-in-law forbade him from seeing Hehuai. To brag to his daughter, Uncle Zhe showed off as the most powerful in the Su family to ward off the Mu family members.

Uncle Zhe decided to help them as the former Kui (but actually because Hehuai was his daughter). They went back to the Spider’s Nest. Although Hehuai knew how to cure the patriarch, it would cost her life. Uncle Zhe disagreed, and the old housekeeper asked if someone else could replace her life. I think the old housekeeper would sacrifice his life for the patriarch.

Uncle Zhe had a heart-to-heart talk with his daughter. Apparently, at the end, before his wife died, Grandpa Wen let him see her for the last time. She died in his arms. Since then, he wanted to meet Hehuai a few times, but they sent her to the Medicine King to study. Uncle Zhe guessed that Hehuai agreed to heal the patriarch because she fell for Muyu. People said that Muyu was the best-looking Blood River assassin in 100 years, lmao! Hehuai argued that she agreed to heal the patriarch for money, which her father scoffed at because she was as money-hungry as her mother.

Meanwhile, everything that happened made Muyu contemplate life as a Blood River assassin. One subordinate, Si She aka Snake, went to talk to him about this also, and restated that they hoped that Muyu would take over the Blood River’s patriarchy, because they were only loyal to him. The rest then came and begged him also.

Episode 7

Faced with everyone’s pleas, Muyu no longer refused and promised everyone that after this, he would take everyone home in glory and would not hide and be hunted by others like now.

Changhe was shocked when he learned that the Mu youngster had been killed by Uncle Zhe. He sent the Uncle to kill the physician, not the Mu. It means now there is a blood feud between the Mu and the Su families. The man was the son of the family head. Actually, Uncle Zhe didn’t kill that man, but another Mu family member killed his own kin in Episode 6. The head of the Su family calmly accepted the fight challenge sent by the Mu family, because he wanted to make the Su the strongest family in the Blood River. Changhe was more shocked that the Uncle seemed jump ship. Now he went with Muyu and the physician to see the patriarch.

Uncle Zhe found out that Muyu agreed to become the patriarch. He wouldn’t agree if his daughter fell for Muyu. He already told her yesterday, liking an assassin was not a good thing, like what happened to him and her mother. Muyu didn’t say anything, but brought up the news that Uncle Zhe killed Mu’s son. Uncle Zhe didn’t kill him, so they both concluded that Changhe must have something to do with this. He managed to get both family heads’ sons dead. Changhe must’ve wanted the sword for himself, but Muyu was suspicious that things were not as easy as they looked.

Mu Mingce’s poison was cleared up. The former master and subordinate met again: he and Uncle Zhe. The uncle revealed that his daughter was the one who healed the patriarch. Mingce was curious how Hehuai healed him. She explained the Soul Swapping Technique, which meant that his soul was swapped with someone who could bear the poisons. Remember I told you about the old housekeeper, right? He took the poisons into his body, so he left the Spider’s Nest to die. He and the patriarch were best friends back then. So, he advised Muyu on Muyu and Changhe’s friendship not to end like his and the patriarch’s. Mingce teared up when Hehuai told him about his old friend’s sacrifice.

Uncle Zhe asked the patriarch to write to the officials for his freedom, so he could leave with his daughter. The patriarch disagreed, so Muyu tried to negotiate with him. Mingce wanted to release Muyu from the Life-Death Contract poison he once planted on Muyu to follow him, as a thank-you for Muyu saving his life at this time. Muyu calmly revealed that the poison had been cleared many years ago when he mastered the Eighteen Sword Array. Therefore, Muyu’s dedication to Mingce was not because of the poison, but because Mingce saved his life back then, and once he became a Kui, it was his loyalty and duty to his boss. Moreover, Muyu revealed that his biological father was the one who taught him this lesson:

In this world, honor bonds and keep your word. Forget either, and you lose the right to wield a sword.

He only asked for his payment for his dedication to Mingce: don’t kill his brother, Su Changhe. We saw the flashback when Muyu and Changhe both survived the brutal final test, and the patriarch made a one-only decision to let both live instead of one winner only. When the patriarch asked for their new names, Muyu wanted this name, which meant “evening drizzle”. It was dusk, and it rained gently on the day his father saved him from the family slaughter by putting him on a plank and floating him. Changhe asked his name of two suns or “chang”, which meant “bright/prosperous river”

Next, the patriarch asked Muyu who he thought should be the next leader of the Blood River Assassin Guild. Although he was cured from the poison, he was old and only had a few years left. Talking about retirement while the others have to follow him to the death! We didn’t know what the answer Muyu gave; next, we knew Muyu walked in the rain, slowly but steadily, to the place where the Su family gathered. Changhe watched him approach through the balcony.

Episode 8

After fighting a family member, Muyu threw the Sleeping Dragon Sword right in front of the head of the Su family. The patriarch would give it to this elder, under one condition: he must let the Patriarch, Muyu, Changhe, Uncle Zhe, and the rest leave the family. Regarding the rest, they were anyone who wanted to leave. The head knew that letting people leave the Blood River Guild meant weakening the family. Moreover, the officials from the Soul Reapers’ Hall would hunt them down. However, he wanted to seize this opportunity. Right before he took the sword, a coffin arrived.

Appreciation of the eccentric half human-half monster Mu Ciling (played by Li Dai Kun)

What a dramatic entrance! Inside the coffin was none other than Mu Ciling from the Mu Family, who secretly practiced dark arts and became half-man, half-monster, which was he was confined inside an iron coffin. The family leader realized that he was probably the only one who could fight this Mu Ciling, but he too was not Mu Ciling’s level because of his old age. Although confined, Mu Ciling’s martial arts level increased to the point that he was higher than the three family leaders combined. Mu Ciling took the sword, and the Su family head lost his chance. However, the head of the Xie family showed up and fought Mu Ciling. The sword flew out of Mu Ciling’s hand, and it happened that Hehuai was leisurely enjoying tea at the tea house and saw the sword fly in front of her, so she snatched it, hahaha! She knew that she could not defeat the two of them, so she placed a poison array around her.

The array didn’t last long, though, so she had to run away. Luckily, the Spider Shadow Assassins showed up to block Mu Ciling and took the sword for Muyu. However, Mu Ciling killed Chen the Dragon in front of Muyu and threatened him with another subordinate, so Muyu gave up the sword but vowed to avenge his brothers. Mu Ciling gave the sword to the Mu family leader, but now the Xie family leader showed up with the whole family.

Shuiguan, one of the Soul Reaper Hall’s officials, knew something was not right with the sword, so he came straight to the Spider’s Nest looking for the patriarch. Shuiguan was shocked to see that the real sword was still with the patriarch. He was no match for the patriarch, so he left.

Conclusion

What was the patriarch and Muyu’s scheme to trick people with a fake sword? Since the sword was still with Mu Mingce, and the people couldn’t free themselves, yet. Did the patriarch really mean it that he would retire, or was it just a trick? So many questions came only from Episode 8. Let’s continue to the second part: Blood River: Drama Recap Episodes 9 to 18!
