In Generation to Generation: Drama Recap Episodes 6 to 10, Mu Qingyan and Cai Zhao parted ways. Let’s hope they won’t be apart too long!
Recap Episodes 11 to 18
Episode 11
After recuperating, Master Qi called Cai Zhao and asked where Chang Ning had gone. She simply said that Chang Ning got tired of jianghu and left to live a normal life. Master Qi firmly told her not to leave the sect without permission again. Cai Zhao had a hunch that the master knew Chang Ning was Mu Qinyan. At night, she couldn’t sleep and started missing him. It didn’t help that she got a letter from her lil bro that he missed Chang Ning’s wonton.

Her reason to meet Qingyan came when Uncle Lei, the healer, called her. He noticed her not doing well, and he could rightly guess that she missed Chang Ning. When Cai Zhao argued that he was living a normal life, feasting and drinking down the mountain, Uncle Lei said that Chang Ning wouldn’t live long because his poison was incurable. Cai Zhao was more worried about Qingyan. Uncle Lei said that he originally made some medicine for Chang Ning before he left. Cai Zhao then heard that her master had gone into seclusion again, so she decided to go down the mountain to ask Qingyan’s old steward about Qingyan’s whereabouts.

Unfortunately, when she was sneaking out, she was caught by Song Yuzhi. Yuzhi insisted on accompanying Cai Zhao, so that way she wouldn’t be scolded if the master found out. He knew Chang Ning was Mu Qingyan, if not, how could she get saliva so easily? He also wanted to borrow the Jade Sunflower from the Li Sect.
When they finally met the old steward, he didn’t want to spill Qingyan’s whereabouts, only left her a safety talisman.
Episode 12
The old steward reported to Qingyan that Cai Zhao came to see him to help him with his poison, but he successfully prevented her from coming. However, Qingyan knew Cai Zhao better; if she wanted to come, nothing and nobody would stop her. He sent his eagle to find her. Cai Zhao and Yuzhi travelled day and night without stopping to Qinglong Altar. This Altar used to be Nie Zhe’s but was captured by Qingyan. Qingyan set up a “market” out of nowhere for them to rest, and it even had a stall selling wonton! The talisman given by the old servant to Cai Zhao turned out to be useful, since their journey was full of danger. Well, not only Qingyan who found out about their journey, but also Master Qi!

Episode 13
Cai Zhao and Yuzhi fell into the hands of the Demonic Camp people. They encountered Xing’er, You Guanyue’s lover. One or two episodes away Qingyan recruited him to be his loyal follower. This guy was in charge of Qinglong Altar when it was under Nie Zhe’s control.
So much stuff happened to Cai Zhao, Yuzhi, and Ning’er fighting the Demonic Camp and their monsters. Qingyan still monitored her whereabouts with his Peng eagle.

Episode 14
The reason Qingyan didn’t go straight looking for Cai Zhao because he launched his final assault at the Xuanwu Altar. Nie Zhe farmed corpse slaves to be mass soldiers, formed like zombies. These corpse slaves were very powerful and didn’t feel any pain neither died.
Cai Zhao met a village elder scribe named Yan Xu, who knew Qingyan. He had been chained by Nie Zhe for refusing to falsify the sect’s history. After fighting Nie Zhe, Qingyan ran through this village, and he was temporarily helped by Yan Xu.
Yan Xu could not only identify the mushroom used to control the corpse slaves, but also the herbs to suppress the effect. Cai Zhao and the villagers gathered the herb to make powder, and she went to the battlefield to sprinkle the herb. Just about when Qingyan was overwhelmed battling the corpses, they retreated, and he passed out right in front of her.
Cai Zhao watched over Qingyan while burning the medicinal incense from Uncle Lei. When he woke up, he noticed that she already knew that he was dying. She said she would help her fulfil his wish, either taking revenge or anything, then she would return to Qingque Sect with Yuzhi. Hearing Yuzhi’s name mentioned, Qingyan couldn’t help but feel jealous. He asked her not to leave, then noticed the poison on her arm.

Later, when Qingyan, Cai Zhao, and Yuzhi asked Yan Xu if he knew any medicine that could clear Cai Zhao’s poison, he mentioned the herb garden near Youming Pass. Cai Zhao remembered that when she sneaked into the Demonic Camp, she overheard Sun Ruoshui collecting dew late night near the Youming Path for her medicinal flowers. She was Nie Zhe’s concubine and Qingyan’s mother.
Episode 15
Qingyan didn’t like Yuzhi hanging out with Cai Zhao, so he told Yuzhi to return, and he would deliver the Jade Sunflower once he took over the Bliss Palace (where Nie Zhe lived). Yuzhi didn’t back off either, stating that it was his duty to protect his junior sister, and he also wanted to eliminate the sect’s villain. Cai Zhao entered, completely oblivious that the two men were fighting for her. Qingyan and Cai Zhao argued, and she bit him when he didn’t let go of her hand. Luckily, You Guanyue showed up, and they stopped fighting.

Once Nie Zhe knew Cai Zhao was Cao Pingshu’s niece, he used this knowledge to spread news that Qingyan was a rebel who colluded with their sworn enemy. Elder Yan Xu, who was nice to Cai Zhao before, gathered people to confront Cai Zhao and was convinced after seeing the Sunshine Blade, which she inherited from her aunt. Xing’er stepped in and defended Cai Zhao, who had rescued the villagers and helped them fight against the corpse slaves. Qingyan also reminded the elders that Cai Pingshu had defeated Nie Hengcheng in a fair duel.
They found Sun Ruoshui’s garden, but she had it burned down. Qingyan suggested that they try to look at his father’s secret garden. Father’s cherished Beichen Orchid turned out to be a cure for Cai Zhao’s poisoning. When she wanted to use it for Qingyan, he refused. He asked her if he died, would she tell her children and grandchildren about him? The thought of “children and grandchildren” never occurred to her! Qingyan tried to woo the ignorant Cai Zhao, especially since he knew Yuzhi was secretly listened outside the room, haha! He even asked her to lie the whole night by his side and talked about their happy past at the Qingque Sect.

The next day, Yuzhi confronted Qingyan and reminded him that Cai Zhao belonged to the righteous sect, and he belonged to the demonic sect; the two could never be together. Qingyan was confident that he would win over Cai Zhao, because he liked to go against the tide.

Nie Zhe plotted with his concubine Sun Ruoshui to kill Qingyan. He promised to make her his legal wife. Sun Ruoshui wanted to use the mother-son “bonding” to approach Qingyan and went to see her son, even gifted him his father’s sword, which she said she stole from the Bliss Palace. She claimed she had been forced by Nie Zhe to be his concubine. Luckily, Qingyan could see through her scheme.
Episode 16
You Guanyue filled Cai Zhao in about Sun Ruoshui, so she was fully aware of this scheming woman. When Sun Ruoshui came to find her to win her heart for her son, Cai Zhao knew Sun Ruoshui wanted to poison her with a sleeping drug, while she countered the attack with a laxative, haha.
At night, Qingyan sneaked into Cai Zhao’s bed, with an excuse that he couldn’t sleep and wanted to talk to her. They ended up talking about Nie Hengcheng and how he manipulated the Mus, then Nie Zhe and Sun Ruoshui and how Qingyan’s father could fall into the woman’s trap. After that, Qingyan suddenly threw up blood!

Sun Ruoshui took the advantage to accuse Cai Zhao in front of everyone that she had poisoned Qingyan. Cai Zhao counter-accused Sun Ruoshui that she and Qingyan had gotten along well, and he was okay until Sun Ruoshui came. Cai Zhao ordered the woman to be sent away. After everyone was gone, Qingyan woke up. Apparently, they schemed to reveal Sun Ruoshi’s poisoning Qingyan through the sword she gave and sent her away. She returned to Nie Zhe and proudly claimed that she had poisoned Qingyan.
In the morning, Qingyan asked Cai Zhao if she wanted to know the real him. When she agreed, he brought her to a dilapidated shack. After he was born, Nie Zhe ruthlessly broke his limbs, and Sun Ruoshui left him alone in the hut for five years. Nie Zhe didn’t want to kill Qingyan because of his young master status. After five years, his father, who had finally recovered from his own injuries, showed up to rescue him. Sun Ruoshui had poisoned his father with the sword, too. His father spent his whole life fixing Qingyan’s limbs with his inner power, which led to his death.

Liu Yunrui as Qingyan’s father, Mu Zhengming
Because Nie Zhe thought Qingyan was poisoned and dead, he threw a party to celebrate the victory. However, Qingyan and Cai Zhou sneaked into the Bliss Palace to kill Nie Zhe. Although Qingyan grew stronger in martial arts and fighting against Nie Zhe, he could subdue Qingyan by throwing powder towards Qingyan, which was a catalyst for the Suzi poison, which was already in Qingyan’s blood system. Nie Zhe then put both Qingyan and Cai Zhao in a cage and released flesh eating ants.
Episode 17
Seeing the ants, Qingyan remembered someone from the sect who was an expert in raising exotic animals and called him out. The caretaker showed up, and Qingyan killed him with a flying needle. Before death, the man managed to trigger a mechanism that opened the floor and trapped the two underground.
Trapped underground, Qingyan became sentimental and asked Cai Zhao if she was afraid of death. She did, but pragmatically, everyone died anyway. Qingyan said that he wasn’t afraid of death before, because he was a dying man anyway. Not until she showed up and wanted to kiss her. Yes, at that time, Cai Zhao saw some secret codes from her sect, carved on the wall. They followed the sign and found a deep underground palace. There was a carving revealing that the founder of the Li Sect was actually the son of the Beichen ancestor. They were attacked by the demons, and he used a forbidden technique to fight them. When his father found out, he was kicked out. The founders of the six sects of Beichen were none other than the servants of the Beichen ancestors. Qingyan remarked that there was no straight line between “good” and “evil”, they were labels manufactured by descendants with schemes.
They also found a beautiful wedding chamber, which belonged to another Li Sect leader, Mu Donglie, and his wife. Cai Zhao was shocked when she found out that her ancestor was the wife who was accused of being a demoness/rebel by eloping with a demon. Upon reading her ancestor’s diary, she and Qingyan found out what happened back then.

Qingyan and Cai Zhao finally managed to get out of the underground palace with the symbolic guidance provided by her ancestor. Outside, they were attacked by a mysterious man in black, but they easily defeated the person. They reunited with the rest who had searched for the two after the palace floor collapsed. They managed to find Nie Zhe and Sun Ruoshui. Qingyan tortured and pitched them against each other for confessions. It was revealed that Nie Zhe attacked the Chang Fort under the order of a man in black.
Episode 18
Sun Ruoshui admitted that she saw the man in black give Nie Zhe a list of people to be killed and promised to help him become the Li Sect leader. Qingyan and Cai Zhao believed that the man in black would rescue Nie Zhe, who was imprisoned, so they wanted to wait for the guy to show up. However, Cai Zhao couldn’t help feeling homesick. Qingyan entertained her by taking her for a ride on the eagle to see the beautiful valley. While talking, suddenly Qingyan coughed up blood.

Feeling that he was nearing his end, he solemnly asked Cai Zhao to stay by his side as his final wish. Cai Zhao agreed and told Song Yuzhi, who was ready to depart, that she would return in a few more months.
Elder Yan Xu disagreed that Cai Zhao stayed by Qingyan’s side, because he still hated the Six Beichen Sect’s member. Aha, apparently Qingyan only pretended to be sick! First, we knew he wanted Cai Zhao to stay by his side for a little longer. Second, he wanted to lure the man in black or the remnants of Nie Zhe’s followers to come out.
Cai Zhao found out Qingyan’s lie soon when she saw the remains of Xungu Grass in his medicine. It was an herb that mimics illness. She realized that he had lied to her to be by his side and to lure out enemies, so she packed up. Before she left, she confronted Qingyan. Qingyan dropped his act and forbade her from leaving, but Cai Zhao put her blade to his neck! This is the scene for the featured image of Part 2.

You Guanyue rushed in to report that the man in black had rescued Nie Zhe and killed Sun Ruoshui. Cai Zhao wanted to help catch Nie Zhe back, but Qingyan coldly ordered her to go, or she would never be able to leave. She didn’t have any choice but to leave with Yuzhi. Back at the sect, Master Qi was very angry at Cai Zhao and forbade her from ever seeing him again. When she mentioned the man in black, Master Qi warned her not to get involved with the demonic sect matters. She was very heartbroken; she didn’t even want to eat wonton anymore. Despite Qingyan’s lie, her feelings for him have grown stronger.
TL;DR
- Cai Zhao went to find Mu Qingyan and helped him fight Nie Zhe and his followers.
- While being together, Qingyan wooed Cai Zhao to win her heart.
- Nie Zhe and his concubine were captured, but behind them was a mastermind disguised in black.
- Cai Zhao found Qingyan biggest lie (so far) and left him.
What a dramatic ending for Part 3! But I was more curious about the man in black. Will we find out his identity in the next part?

Do you think you can leave without my permission?
