To move my newest article notifications from the Promotions tab to the Primary tab in Gmail, you can use several methods depending on whether you want a one-time move or a permanent change
Desktop (Web Browser)
The easiest way to move an email on a computer is to drag and drop it.
- Drag and Drop: Click and hold the email in the Promotions tab and drag it over to the Primary tab. After you release it, a box will appear at the bottom left asking if you want to do this for future messages from that sender. Click Yes to make the change permanent.
- Right-Click Menu: Right-click on the email, select Move to tab, and then choose Primary.
- Create a Permanent Filter: To ensure specific emails always go to Primary:
- Open the email and click the three vertical dots (More) in the top right.
- Select Filter messages like these.
- Click Create filter.
- Check the box for Categorize as: and select Primary from the dropdown menu.
- Click Create filter again to save
Mobile App (Android/iOS)
The mobile app does not support dragging between tabs, so you must use the menu options.
- Open the Gmail app and go to the Promotions category.
- Long-press to select the email(s) or open a specific message.
- Tap the three vertical dots in the top right corner of the screen.
- Select Move to and then choose Primary.
