Introduction
In Legend of Zang Hai: Drama Recap Episodes 11 to 20, we see how Zang Hai starts his revenge on the Marquis of Ping Jin while trying to survive himself. In this third part, he starts his revenge on his second enemy, which turns out to be more complicated. He is also introduced to his third enemy!
Recap Episodes 21 to 30
Episode 21
Zang Hai finds Zhao Bing Wen at home fixing the roof. He gives Zang Hai a bunch of advice and then leaves for a meeting. He asks Zang Hai to help him fix the roof. Zang Hai uses this opportunity to sneak into his study after sending the servant away to get new tiles. Alas, Minister Zhao returns because he forgot something. Zang Hai cannot find what he’s looking for and bumps into Minister Zhao. Zang Hai reasons that a servant asks him to check the study room because it’s damp. Minister Zhao doesn’t believe him, so he calls all servants and asks Zang Hai to identify the servant. Of course, nobody asked him, so Zang Hai lies and says he forgot what the servant looked like. Minister Zhao is angry and wants to punish all servants. At this time, Minister Zhao’s daughter arrives. Her name is Zhao Tong Er. Wait… is she Mister Eight??? Tong Er tells her father that she was dressed as a man earlier, so Zang Hai must’ve mistaken her for a servant. Minister Zhao can’t say anything and lets Zang Hai fix his study. It turns out, Minister Zhao was not in the Capital when Zang Hai’s family was murdered. As a vice minister, he was far away from the Capital, providing disaster relief in a place that takes a 3-week trip.
Mister Eight turns out to be very pretty!
As a thank you for saving him, Zang Hai goes to Zhen Tower and brings books for Mister Eight to get inspiration for her plays. Xiang An Tu also invites him for tea, she is grateful that Zang Hai rescued her from Prince Yong Rong the night before.
There is a minister’s meeting at the court. The Head Eunuch reads the Emperor’s decree about the hero General Fu, who died during the flood rescue in Zhenzhong. The Emperor rewards him to be buried in the imperial tomb, and orders Zang Hai to preside the General Fu’s funeral within two months. Zang Hai asks his trusted aide Shi Quan to help him. However, only Shi Quan, an experienced artisan, is among the workers who are all young, inexperienced, and prone to mistakes. Zang Hai requests more workers from Zhuang Zhi Fu, but the latter refuses to help. Zang Hai has to use Marquis Pingjin’s name, then his son promises to send more workers. However, Zhuang Zhi Fu doesn’t send more workers, but the workers available are withdrawn with the excuse that the palace needs them. Only Shi Quan left. While Zang Hai and Shi Quan are trying to think about what to do, Lu Ran, the Head Eunuch’s foster son, arrives. He wants to check the project. Of course, the Head Eunuch already knows that the workers are withdrawn. Lu Ran suggests Zang Hai report the issue (that eventually will implicate the Marquis because of his son), and smoothly suggests Zang Hai another support, which is from the Head Eunuch. Lu Ran also invites him to a banquet held by the Head Eunuch. Zang Hai knows that the Head Eunuch wants him to betray Marquis Pingjin just for the Gui Seal. Even though the Marquis is his enemy, at least he doesn’t control Zang Hai on what to do. Zang Hai doesn’t want to succumb to the Head Eunuch and tear down the invitation.
Episode 22
When Zang Hai doesn’t show up at that ‘banquet’, Lu Ran comes again with another invitation. Zang Hai excuses that he was very busy with the project. Lu Ran then burns the letter and tells Zang Hai that the project deadline has been moved forward. Shi Quan is very angry and protests to Lu Ran. Hearing that, Lu Ran draws his sword and strikes Shi Quan. Zang Hai says that although Shi Quan is low-level, he’s still an official. If Lu Ran does something to Shi Quan, he’s responsible for answering the Head Eunuch. Lu Ran then gives Zang Hai a threatening question about the death of his brother.
Zhuang Zhi Fu hears that the Head Eunuch moved forward the deadline. He comes to see Zang Hai and tells Zang Hai to give him the tomb ledger, so Zang Hai does. While waiting for Zhi Fu’s action, Zanghai and Shi Quan are helped by Guan Feng and Shi Lei. Suddenly, Zhi Fu sends a bunch of seasoned craftsmen and materials. The little group is very happy.
The Head Eunuch hears about it. He knows Zhi Fu is greedy, so he wants to cause strife in the Zhuang Family. He sends an anonymous letter to the Marquis, stating that his son embezzles state funds and cuts corners in the tomb construction. Marquis Pingjin is very angry at his son. He tells his son to return the funds and even cover the materials with his own money. He then calls Zang Hai over. Zang Hai insists it’s all his doing, even when Marquis threatens him. Marquis knows that Zang Hai is lying, but he’s also happy that Zang Hai doesn’t betray his son.

After Zhuang Zhi Fu helps Zang Hai with materials and laborers, the Head Eunuch wants to suppress Zang Hai even further. During the court meeting, the Head Eunuch suggests another push ahead of the schedule to finish the tomb. Marquis Pingjin argues with his own reasoning, and even pushes the schedule way back, and the ministers agree with him. The Head Eunuch can only follow the majority, but he’s very angry. He calls Zhuang Zhi Fu in and shows him a huge stack of Zhi Fu’s corruption evidence. He even brings someone in who betrayed the Head Eunuch, and Lu Ran kills him on the spot. The Head Eunuch orders Zhi Fu to find the Gui Seal through Zang Hai. Zhi Fu then sucks up to Zang Hai, even insists to become his sworn brother, and gives him a fine jade pendant.
Episode 23
Since Zang Hai knows the Head Eunuch orders Zhi Fu to find out about the Gui Seal, he draws a fake picture and deliberately hides it in front of Zhi Fu. Zhi Fu takes Zang Hai to a restaurant and sends people to steal the drawing. When the Head Eunuch sees the drawing, especially the fish tokens, he believes it as authentic. Zhi Fu makes Zang Hai drink and gets drunk, although Zang Hai pretends to take the bait. After boasting that he’s favored by Marquis Pingjin, Zang Hai reveals that the Marquis hides the Gui Seal in the treasury room. The Head Eunuch is hiding next door. When he steps out, he mocks Zhi Fu, saying that Marquis Pingjin values Zang Hai, who is only his aide, than his own son. Zang Hai also says, half drunk, that Zhi Fu’s mother killed Zhi Xin’s mother. The Head Eunuch orders Zhi Fu to stab Zang Hai. Now this stupid Zhi Fu is owed even more to the Head Eunuch. They leave the killing to Lu Yan. However, before Lu Yan finishes off Zang Hai, Shi Lei comes to the rescue and fights Lu Yan. Since when is Shi Lei better than Lu Yan, who is a trained soldier??? Shi Lei wounds Lu Yan and takes Zang Hai away. Lu Yan reports it to her boss. The Head Eunuch changes strategy. He arrests Zhi Fu instead, with the accusation of trying to kill an official, in addition to his corruption. Zang Hai asks Shi Lei to take him to the Marquis’ place, even though he’s bleeding heavily. Zang Hai says the truth, Zhi Fu wants to kill him, and he is forced by the Head Eunuch. The latter might have something on leverage.
Ways to release stress: Cao Jiang Xian sings leisurely, while Zhuang Lu Yin cleans his sword meticulously.
Marquis Pingjin is really angry. The Head Eunuch doesn’t want to release Zhi Fu. Marquis gathers his people to rally against the Head Eunuch to impeach him. However, the Head Eunuch also knows about this, and he, too, gathers his people. Zang Hai’s plan is working. Moreover, he knows that either of them will contact the mysterious third person. After spying, Shi Lei reports that the Head Eunuch leaves at night wearing a cape. He goes to a palace where a royal hostage, Princess of Dongxia, lives. The place is guarded heavily. Zang Hai uses the underground tunnel he knows very well to sneak in. He hears the Head Eunuch talk to a woman, but he cannot see her face. However, we know who the person is… Xiang An Tu!
The princess might not be the third person, because she was 10 when Zang Hai’s family was massacred. However, since she’s from Dongxia, it’s more likely that the Head Eunuch works with her because she also looks for the Gui Seal of Dongxia. Zang Hai meets Zhi Xing and tells him about the feud between his father and the Head Eunuch. Zang Hai wants Zhi Xing to help his father gain more favor from Marquis Pingjin and establish himself. Next, he goes to Zhen Tower looking for An Tu. She’s practicing sword (for the attack plan) and insisting he go with her for a date. An Tu wants to kill the Marquis, and Zang Hai might be in her way.
Episode 24
The birthday banquet at Marquis Pingjin’s home is gloomy. When the guests find out that his son is detained by the Head Eunuch, they advise the Marquis to talk to the Head Eunuch. However, Lady Jiang says that every guest here has been oppressed by the Head Eunuch before. Everyone then agreed to sign an impeachment petition.
Sure enough, the Head Eunuch comes with his guards, he’s holding a sword in his hand.. The guests want to leave, but the guards block the entrance. Zhuang Zhi Fu is brought in, he can’t walk anymore because they broke his kneecaps. The Head Eunuch read the long list of confessions Zhi Fu made. The Marquis is so angry, and he ordered his guards to attack. Suddenly, the Head Eunuch stabs himself, runs out, and yells that the Marquis is killing him. The Head Eunuch brings some officials, and they believe the Marquis is about to kill the Head Eunuch and run away. The Head Eunuch then turns around and demands the Gui Seal. The Marquis yells that even if he has it, he won’t give it away to the Head Eunuch. Fierce confrontation ensue.
Remember the ‘date’ between Zang Hai and An Tu? Well, both parties skipped the date. Zang Hai sends Guan Feng, while An Tu sends her maid to the meeting place. We know where they are, in the treasury room. But they’re not the only ones there. While both parties’ guards fight outside, the Head Eunuch’s foster daughter, Lu Yan, leads some guards to look for the Gui Seal in the treasury room, together with Xiang An Tu and her guard. It turns out her guard holds Lu Yan and the rest, while An Tu proceeds. Just while she’s looking around, Zang Hai appears. He thinks that An Tu, who’s wearing a mask, is the third person. Zang Hai smokes An Tu with a drug, she gets dizzy, and Zang Hai shoots her leg with a crossbow. But he is so shocked that seeing the masked person in front of her is An Tu! He reveals that he’s the son of people she killed, and he comes for revenge. Of course, An Tu has no clue what he’s talking about, since she’s not the killer. Zang Hai then kowtow in front of his parents clothings, burns the treasury room, and takes An Tu away.
Zang Hai goes outside, and the courtyard is in total chaos with the bloody fight. Zhi Xing arrives with his soldiers. He has already been promoted to lead a group of soldiers. When Zhi Xing rescues his father, he’s shot by Lu Yan. The Head Eunuch sees the reinforcement and orders his side to withdraw.
Aftermath. While clearing all the mess, Zang Hai meets the Marquis, reporting that Zhi Xing’s condition is stabilized. The Marquis asks Zang Hai’s opinion about the reason the Head Eunuch came to attack. Zang Hai guesses, it’s not only about the impeachment, but also the fish token, because the treasury room is burned and there are dead bodies there. However, Marquis Pingjin has already secured the fish token. Zang Hai confesses that Zhi Fu has been trying to get close to him lately, and maybe he spilled the beans to Zhi Fu, who in turns is forced to tell the Head Eunuch.
The Marquis is suspicious of the timely rescue by Zhi Xing. Did Zang Hai plan this to promote Zhi Xing? Zang Hai explains that Zhi Xing risks his life to protect his father is not something he, Zang Hai, can control. The Marquis believes him. He visits Zhi Xing and praises him that he saved the family, and now that the family pride is all on him. Meanwhile, Zhi Fu not only becomes useless with all his corruption, but also goes crazy. Because of the severe infections coming from untreated knee wounds, he gets a high fever and becomes insane.
Episode 25
The Emperor calls Marquis Pingjin and the Head Eunuch in front of other ministers. Both don’t reveals anything about any fish token or Gui Seal, their only conflict is about Zhuang Zhi Fu. The Emperor removes the Head Eunuch from the Head of the Surveillance Office. Marquis Pingjin asks for his son to be removed from his job and demoted to a commoner. For himself, he requests a retirement. The Emperor agrees to his requests. Other issues need investigation.
Xiang An Tu is missing. Mister Eight and the maids ask Zang Hai, but he lies that he doesn’t know her whereabouts and can’t go out to look for her either because of the conflict between the Marquis and the Head Eunuch. In fact, he’s hiding her in a secret room, and Master Liu Chu is taking care of her. Zang Hai poisons An Tu with a drug that weakens her limbs, so she is too weak to move.
An Tu tries to convince Zang Hai that she’s not his enemy. For Zang Hai, although she might not kill his parents, she’s from Dongxia. Dongxia is involved in killing his family. An Tu challenges Zang Hai to investigate the truth, and if she’s proven innocent, she’ll never forgive him.
With Marquis Pingyin’s retirement and Zhi Fu becoming a dud, the Zhuang Family’s reputation lay on Zhi Xing. His father urges him to take the martial arts competition. Although Zhi Xing is too old to master martial arts skills, Zang Hai still lent him Shi Lei to train him. Eventually, Zhi Xing wins the competition. His father is super happy and wants to conduct a banquet to show the world that there’s still a successor in the Zhuang Mansion. Zang Hai suggests that the Marquis make Zhi Xing his legitimate son and heir, to smooth his son’s career since he’s now a martial arts scholar and will become an official. Marquis Pingjin orders for Shen Wan be recorded in the family registry as his legitimate wife, has a memorial tablet, and her grave be moved to the family tomb.
At the banquet, Zhi Xing’s family status becomes Young Master. His father gifted him his armor he used when he won the war in Dongxia. Zhi Xing privately thanks Zang Hai, but he says Zhi Xin should thank himself the most for his achievements.
Episode 26
Lady Jiang is angry when she sees Shen Wan’s memorial tablet put in the ancestral hall. She’s even angrier hearing that the Marquis put it there, as the mother of the legitimate heir. Lady Jiang storms into the banquet hall. When she warns her husband about how Shen Wan died, Marquis Pingjin slaps her hard. After she leaves, Marquis Pingjin goes back to partying. Later, he banishes her to the countryside, together with Zhi Fu, and Zhi Fu’s wife.
At night, Zhi Xing comes to see Zang Hai. He begs to let his father go, but Zang Hai doesn’t budge. He tells Zhi Xing, it’s exactly what he also felt that night; he silently begged his enemy to let his father go. Zhi Xing fulfills his promise; he gives Zang Hai the fish token and retells his father’s story. When the Altar collapsed, Chu Huai Ming saw Zang Hai’s father rush out with a box. Chu Huai Ming reported to the Marquis, since he knew the Marquis had been looking for Gui Seal. Marquis met the Head Eunuch, and together they went to Kuai Duo’s house and massacred his family when he didn’t want to surrender the Seal. The third person is the Queen of Dongxia. After telling the story, Zhi Xing promises he will help Zang Hai kill the Head Eunuch and the Queen, but he will be against Zang Hai killing his father.
After Zhi Xing leaves, Zang Hai visits his hostage, An Tu. He directly says that her mother is the third person who killed his family. An Tu doesn’t believe it, especially when that tragedy happened, her mother was in Dongxia. She wanted to get the Dongxia treasure back and not share it with the Head Eunuch or the Marquis, but she didn’t kill Kuai Duo. When An Tu asks if he hates her now, Zang Hai doesn’t answer and leaves her.
The next day, Zhi Xing is promoted as a governor, and his retired father is allowed to attend. Just at that time, Lady Jiang strikes the Petition Drum to tell her grievances. The Emperor lets her in, and in front of the officials, she accuses her husband of bribing officials, even providing His Majesty with proof. The officials admit the bribery but also accuse the Marquis of forcing them. The Emperor is furious and imprisons the Marquis and orders some officials to investigate the matter.
Zang Hai visits the Marquis in prison and reports the situation outside. Marquis Pingjin wants him to call some of his friends, but Zang Hai refuses. He then mentions Kuai Duo, and the Marquis guesses right away that Zang Hai is his son. Zang Hai says that Zhi Xing knows that the Marquis killed his mother. Marquis Pingjin starts laughing, and before Zang Hai leaves, Marquis asks: “Kuai Duo, if you get to see your son like this, will you laugh or cry?” The two separate bitterly. Marquis’s laugh turns to cry, and Zang Hai walks out and cries, too.
Episode 27
The war of the Zhuangs is all out. Lady Jiang reveals all Marquis Pingjin’s crimes of abusing the law. All properties are confiscated, and all servants are banished. Since Lady Jiang contributed to the country, the Emperor allows her to stay with her son and daughter-in-law for the time being. Lady Jiang poisoned everyone, including herself (mass suicide). Zhi Xing is also given the poisoned tea, but he doesn’t drink it. The Emperor is contemplating the death penalty for Marquis Pingjin, but because of his generational merits and his execution may dishearten soldiers, His Majesty will just demote him to a commoner.
Marquis Pingjin pretends to commit suicide, but threatens a yamen officer to deliver a message to the Head Eunuch. Guan Feng and Shi Lei are spying around the Head Eunuch’s mansion, so they stop the scared officer. They read the message written in blood on a piece of clothing, mentioning that Zang Hai from the Kuai family fooled them, and for the Head Eunuch to save the Marquis. They change the message to one that Zang Hai had already prepared, because he suspects Marquis will reveal his family identity to the Head Eunuch. The message is now written “clear my name, restore my title, or the truth about the Kuai family will reach the Majesty”. Head Eunuch doesn’t want to kill the Marquis in the prison, since everyone knows that he wants to kill the Marquis. He has another plan.
The Head Eunuch sends fake SOS letters to Marquis Pingjin’s subordinates, telling them that the Marquis has been framed and ordering them to rescue him. When the military soldiers come to the prison to save the Marquis, he realizes that the Head Eunuch tricked them. The Emperor lets him live by demoting him to a commoner, but with the prison break, now the crime is rebellion. The Head Eunuch’s guards are waiting for the soldiers. Marquis Pingjin has no other way than to fight them while trying to get into the Palace to explain to His Majesty.
Zhi Xing, who is in house arrest, is confused when someone sneaks into the mansion to kill him, then his father’s subordinates come to save him and tell him to follow them, joining the Marquis. When he’s about to mount the horse, Zang Hai hurriedly comes and tells him to leave the Capital, because the Head Eunuch frames the Marquis to rebel. After that, Zang Hai goes to the palace gate where a bloody fight between the Marquis’s people, the Head Eunuch’s guards, and the palace guards happens. Zang Hai wants to personally kill the Marquis with his crossbow. Just when he’s face to face with the Marquis, Zhi Xing rides in. He begs his father to surrender, but Marquis Pingjin refuses, since he wants to clear the misunderstanding with the Majesty. Zhi Xing says that his father has to go through him first. Father and son start fighting.
Episode 28
While dodging his father’s sword, Zhi Xin keeps begging him to surrender. Eventually, Marquis Pingjin realizes that he has lost, even if he’s able to reach the Emperor. Seeing his old subordinates fall one by one and blood stains the ground red, Marquis Pingjin decides to defend the Zhuang family honor for the last time. He thrusts himself onto Zhi Xin’s sword, and dies in his arm. Before death, Marquis Pingjin requests Zhi Xin to restore the Zhuang Family. After knowing their leader has died, the rest of the soldiers surrender.
Since Zhi Xin quelled the rebellion by killing his own father, the head of the rebels, the Emperor sent Zhi Xin to guard the border and not return without an edict. His Majesty spares his life because of his contribution, but he can’t stay in the Capital because he’s dangerous. Zhi Xin comes to his mother’s grave and bids farewell. Zang Hai sees him off. He asks the Minister of War to appoint Zhi Xin’s two good soldier friends to accompany him on the border. Zang Hai encourages Zhi Xin that this is not the end of his life but a new start. The Emperor gave him a chance to prove himself. Zhi Xin bids goodbye and doesn’t know if he’ll see Zang Hai ever again. Even if Zang Hai successfully eliminates his first enemy, Zang Hai feels sad and guilty towards Zhi Xin, using an innocent and kind-hearted teenager for his revenge.
The Head Eunuch decides not to kill Zhi Xin as per his foster children’s suggestion. If he kills Zhi Xin on his way to the border, people will say he killed the entire Zhuang Family. That boy is a nobody anyway, and he’ll most likely be dead in the fights on the border. The Head Eunuch is more eager to find the Gui Seal in Marquis Pingjin’s mansion. So, after Zhi Xin’s departure, the Head Eunuch goes with Lu Yan and Lu Ran to search for the box. Zang Hai already knows he’ll search for it. But what’s the reason? His Benefactor comes and congratulates Zang Hai for the first victory. The Benefactor explains that the Head Eunuch wants the Gui Seal as leverage for the future emperor. Zang Hai hides the fake Gui Seal in a hidden compartment inside the wall. He knows that the Head Eunuch will be extra careful of the hidden weapon where the fake Seal is put. Lu Yan and Lu Ran take the box out with great caution. What they don’t know, though, the secret weapon is not in front of them but behind them. Metal darts are shot out of a hidden compartment on the staircase once the box is taken away, right onto the Head Eunuch’s back!
Episode 29
During the court session, the Emperor is not in the mood, so the court is dismissed. Usually, if the Emperor doesn’t lead the court, the Head Eunuch represents him. But he’s not in the court. Prince Yong Rong hints to Zang Hai that he heard the Head Eunuch was attacked at his mansion. A lot of people want him to die, including Prince Yong Rong. Not sure if this hints that Prince Yong Rong is one of the foes or friends? The Head Eunuch is dying. Lu Ran checked that the only person who entered the mansion was Zang Hai. The Head Eunuch doesn’t bother with killing Zang Hai, he just wants to find the Gui Seal. Then, he dies.
Zang Hai is studying the map of Dongxia when he sees An Tu walking with Master Liu Chu. Although Zang Hai had already spread rumors that An Tu had been taken hostage, the Queen of Dongxia didn’t show up. Zang Hai is so desperate, especially since he doesn’t feel comfortable with An Tu ‘living’ at his place. Finally, he decided to go to Dongxia and let An Tu go. He consults with Master Liu Chu. She can see that Zang Hai and An Tu have feelings for each other. She advises, no matter how careful a plan is or how good a decision is, when love and hate are entangled, there is no right or wrong. Some people, once you miss them, you won’t see them again.
Zang Hai wants to resign because he plans to go to Dongxia. Right on time, because he is summoned hurriedly to the court. The Queen of Dongxia is coming! His boss, the Minister of Works, orders him to prepare the guest house where the Queen will stay. Zang Hai was promoted to Vice Minister of Works to replace Zhuang Zhi Fu after Marquis Pingjin’s death. His boss says, in the past, only envoys came, but now the Queen herself is coming to present a gift.
The gift has a complicated mechanism to open it, with a rare jade inside. The Queen challenges anyone who can unlock the secret key. When nobody can open it, Prince Yong Rong recommends Zang Hai. Zang Hai examines the mechanism, and he’s shocked to find out that the mechanism is the same as the one taught by his father. He wonders why the Queen knows about this secret method. Zang Hai is in dilemma. If he unlocks it, the Queen will know his identity as the son of Kuai Duo. If he pretends that he can’t unlock it, it will damage the reputation of the country. In the end, Zanghai used his extraordinary wisdom to unlock the mechanism, and the Emperor could retrieve the gift, which is a super-rare jade fetus. The Queen requests an auspicious place to put the gift, and she specifically chooses Zang Hai since he was able to unlock the mechanism. The Emperor agrees.
While Zang Hai is thinking about how to deal with the Queen of Dongxia, he gets a report from Shi Lei that An Tu refuses to eat and breaks the food bowl. Zang Hai comes to see her. An Tu wants to leave, and Zang Hai says he will let her and tells her that her mother is in the Capital. She’s not his enemy, but her mother is. When An Tu hears that her mother has already tested his identity, she fears for his safety. She begs that they leave the Capital and be free, and she’ll revoke her princess identity. She realizes that Zang Hai is the most important person in life, not her mother. Zang Hai rejects her and leaves. An Tu cries bitterly.
The next day, Zang Hai rides with the Queen in her royal carriage. The Queen mentions that she knows about him and An Tu, because her daughter sent her letters telling her that she met a man and fell for him. When Zang Hai doesn’t respond, the Queen mentions his father directly. She says that his father died because he couldn’t adapt. Zang Hai asks what the meaning to adapt or not to adapt. The Queen knows An Tu is in his hands and demands to see her daughter. Lol, apparently Zang Hai is the one abducted by the Queen, since Dongxia guards subdue the Yong guards, and they’re unconscious. Zang Hai says he will take the Queen to see her daughter.
The Queen of Dongxia is way smarter than the Marquis of Pingjin or Cao Jiang Xian
Episode 30
Having subdued the Yong guards, the Queen forces Zang Hai to take her to her daughter. Zang Hai is smart, tho, he takes her to a dilapidated place that was a royal tomb before. He even walks in front of the group to make them believe he won’t trap them inside. But trapped them he did. Meanwhile, An Tu takes Guan Feng hostage and demands that Master Liu Chu tell her where Zang Hai is because she needs to stop Zang Hai from killing her mother or vice versa.
After examining the mechanism in the tomb, the Queen realizes that Zang Hai wants to meet her alone. She orders her guards to stay behind and enter the tomb herself. It’s the abandoned tomb of Princess Yong Ning, who died in a foreign land. Both Zang Hai and the Queen know the tragic story behind the princess. Zang Hai asks, since the Queen also has a daughter, how does it feel when she sees her daughter in a tragic scene like the Kuai Family massacre? The Queen reminds him that he will lose a chance to get together with An Tu. Zang Hai says by killing her, he will lose An Tu, but how could he forget this deep hatred easily? The Queen sees that Zang Hai has repainted the mural in the tomb, to remind himself not to forget hatred.
Suddenly, An Tu shows up. It seems Master Liu Chu finally gave up and told An Tu where Zang Hai took her mom. An Tu puts a dagger to her neck, and tells Zang Hai that she’ll repay her mom’s sin. Of course, Zang Hai refuses. Just when An Tu is about to slit herself, the Queen knocks her out. The Queen sees that Zang Hai actually has good intentions. She says she’s not his enemy, and tells him a story, he can choose to believe it or not. Queen Dongxia tells Zang Hai how she met his father, who saved her after she fell off the cliff while being chased by rebels. He was there supervising the Altar construction. While recuperating, the Queen and Kuai Duo got to know each other and became close. They shared the same passion for engineering. After the rebellion was suppressed, the Queen went back home. But she secretly fell for her savior. Several months passed, and the Altar collapsed. The Queen conducted a search party for Kuai Duo and saw him leaving with a box. It’s the Gui Seal. The Queen begged him to return the Seal, because her mother used it to wage war against Yong, and she died from it. Her mother forbade everyone from using it, and if anyone found it, it had to be destroyed. The Seal is an ominous sign, his life would be in danger. But Kuai Duo refused. He hit her acupoint, so she couldn’t move. As a farewell, he gave her an artisan handbook he wrote to benefit her country. The Queen returns the book to Zang Hai because it’s his father’s. Zang Hai apologizes for his misunderstanding. The Queen then asks him to help her.
