Episode 11
Because of the urgency to secure housing with Ms. Xu, Fei Ni and Muyang didn’t have a wedding reception; they had only dinner with her family after the marriage registration. Neighbors and coworkers had teased them for wedding candies. However, Fei Ni said they couldn’t afford candy because it wasn’t necessary. Muyang decided to give Fei Ni a wedding party surprise.
The drunken scene of Fei Ni’s father was hilarious. Dad, coaxed by neighbors, decided to make Muyang drunk and asked about his background. Besides being a hero, they didn’t know anything about him. Dad took Muyang to drink, but he himself got drunk. Dad revealed all his past and current secrets, which even his wife didn’t know. After sobering up, he found a note from his new son-in-law about his secrets, and asked him to say good things about him to Fei Ni’s mom.
Muyang remembered that when his father-in-law was drunk yesterday, he lamented that they were so poor that they couldn’t even give Fei Ni a proper wedding. He decided to give Fei Ni one. Muyang went fishing day and night to get fish for the wedding meal, but caught nothing. Finally, he secretly took the money from Fei Ni’s savings to buy carp, with a promise to himself that he would return it to her later. Uh oh! He asked Fei Ni’s brother, who became a cook in the Great Northern Wilderness, to make braised fish for the banquet.
Episode 12
On the designated day, Muyang asked Fei Ni to wear a dress to work. He then joined her during the factory lunchtime. To her surprise, her parents and Lin Mei were there, too. Ms. Xu was the wedding host. After introducing Fei Ni’s family, Ms. Xu reasoned Muyang’s family rep wouldn’t attend. However, to everyone’s surprise, especially Muyang, Mujing, and her husband Qi Hua entered the room. They introduced themselves, and Muyang was surprised that her sister got married, lol. Then the carps arrived…
I had to screencap Fei Ni’s facial expression seeing the food workers enter the dining hall with plates of delicious braised carp. Mom was curious, Fei Ni was shocked, but Muyang beamed happily. Later, after her parents, his sister and brother-in-law, and Muyang gave their speeches, Ms. Xu urged Fei Ni to say something. She couldn’t say much and burst into tears.
After the party, Fei Ni, whose rationality returned, was suspicious about the source of the finances Muyang used to buy the fish. Returning home, she walked directly to the wooden crate when they used as a dining table and checked her money. Muyang had taken ¥60 from her savings for college! Muyang sheepishly apologized; he only wanted to give her a proper wedding so she would not feel embarrassed to her coworkers.
Fei Ni decided to replenish the missing money by bringing home cartons to fold for the gig. Muyang apologized sincerely for holding the wedding banquet without discussing it with her and used her money. Eventually, she forgave him, and they happily shared dinner, since they didn’t even eat the expensive braised fish! Fei Ni punished Muyang to help her fold cartons for three months, which he happily agreed.
Episode 13
While at the wedding banquet, Feng Lin overheard others gossiping about Fei Ni and Muyang sharing a bunk bed. She was suspicious again that their marriage was indeed fake, so she insisted on visiting them to congratulate their wedding, by bringing them a fruit gift. Fei Ni suspected that Feng Lin was up to no good, so she secretly signaled Muyang, who understood her immediately. He rushed home and moved Fei Ni’s belongings from the top bed to the bottom bed, where he slept. While inside, Feng Lin was still suspicious because the top bed was clean. She secretly searched the drawer and found that the condoms distributed by the factory remained untouched.
The following convo between Muyang and Feng Lin was hilarious:
Feng Lin left but was still suspicious, since their nosy neighbor, Chief Wang, told her that she hadn’t heard any sex noise from their house at all. Feng Lin reported to Ms. Xu. Later that night, Ms. Xu took her and Chief Wang, to “raid” Muyang and Fei Ni’s house. They were already prepared. When the three intruders barged in (Ms. Xu used the factory spare key to open the door!), they found Muyang and Fei Ni sleeping on the bottom bed, with minimal clothes. Ms. Xu and Chief Wang were embarrassed, but Feng Lin confronted them about the bunk bed and no sex noise. Annoyed, Muyang called the crowd gathered outside the door to enter and watch them having sex, if they were still not convinced. Embarrassed, Ms. Xu called the night and lectured Feng Lin and Chief Wang outside.
Muyang and Fei Ni thought that no sex noise might be a problem, so that night they “wouldn’t hold back” in sex. Muyang shook the bedpost and dropped some stuff, while Fei Ni fanned him, wondering if what they did was correct, lmao!
After that night, gossip spread about the raid, and of course, the sex noise. Fei Ni’s co-workers hushed and giggled, and some handed Fei Ni extra condoms, just in case the newlywed ran out of them, hahaha!
Episode 14
The few minutes romantic night with Mozart tune and paper lantern was so simple yet beautiful. Muyang borrowed a manual turntable for Fei Ni to listen to classical music. They both learned piano before, so the Mozart tune was familiar to both. While Fei Ni closed her eyes to enjoy the music, Muyang kept staring at her lovingly. However, after Fei Ni enjoyed it for the third time, Muyang had to return it that night. When he left, Fei Ni was curious where he borrowed the turntable from, so she followed him.
Muyang returned the turntable to Gao, a skilled technician from the electromechanical factory. He and Gao had secretly assembled a TV! Muyang had promised Nosy Neighbor, Chief Wang, to sell her a used TV. While Muyang and Gao worked on the TV, Fei Ni gave them her full support. Especially since she had asked Chief Wang for a job opening for her brother if there was one available. Fei Ni accompanied Muyang, brought them food, and work aprons. When the TV was done, they brought it to Chief Wang, who proudly called her neighbors to watch TV. At the end, Chief Wang secured a position for Fei Ting, and he got a better job.
When Fei Ni happily reported to Muyang the good news about her brother, she asked what reward he wanted. He teasingly asked for steak and a new outfit. When she hesitated about the cost, he said she could give a no-cost reward, a kiss on the cheek. Fei Ni blushed, so Muyang said he was just joking. But Fei Ni kissed him on the cheek and ran out!
Both felt the adrenaline rush and were awkward when they met again. Later, they tried to speak formally with each other. At night, they both couldn’t sleep, lol.
Muyang set up a private bath corner with a curtain, so they didn’t have to go to the public bathroom. They were cutely embarrassed by being awkward, but turned on with each other after taking a bath.
Episode 15
Muyang kept surprising Fei Ni and us viewers with various skills. Now it was carpentry skills. He got extra wood panels from building furniture for Fei Ting’s wedding requirement, so Muyang made a bed for him and Fei Ni. When she felt awkward sleeping side-by-side with Muyang, he put up a barrier in the middle. Fei Ni suggested a taller barrier, but Muyang teased his innocent wife that a taller barrier wouldn’t stop him, hahaha!
After life got better with Muyang, Fei Ni wondered why she felt unlucky before, when Muyang was around her at school in the past. Muyang didn’t reveal it to her, but he had secretly protected Fei Ni from being bullied or getting into an accident, because he had liked her since the beginning.
Muyang was good at finding free or cheap entertainment ideas for his dates with Fei Ni. One time, he set up a shadow play for her with a sheet and put it up on the rooftop. They had a great time shadow-playing until he asked her to take the marriage photo again, a better way, and things got heated up!
The rooftop became their secret date spot, so Muyang made a wooden up arrow sign. When he put it up by the window, that meant he wanted Fei Ni to go up to the rooftop to meet him. At this time was a hotpot date!
Episode 16
On one of their date nights, when they sat on the rooftop, they talked about their dreams. Fei Ni regretted that she couldn’t go to college, but Muyang encouraged her to find something else she loved to do. She loved making clothes for her family, even for her neighbors. Last time, when she modified Dad’s small shirt for a bigger Muyang, it looked really nice. When Muyang found out that Fei Ni loved fashion design, he took her to watch foreign movies with actresses wearing pretty clothes. Muyang was busy drawing for Fei Ni to capture the dresses, and at home, she started designing the dresses.
Fei Ni showed her fashion designs to her colleague, Ms. Liu, who praised her immensely and thought her talent was wasted at the textile factory. Feng Lin, who was a supervisor, tore Fei Ni’s designs, citing that she neglected her socialist duties. Ms. Liu informed Fei Ni of a citywide blackboard newspaper contest and tasked her to create one for their factory. Unfortunately, Feng Lin supervised the task, so Fei Ni had to ask her for advice. Feng Lin gave her such stupid, boring ideas.
At night, Fei Ni sneaked into the blackboard with Muyang, and both changed the blackboard with their creative ideas. Things got intimate when he drew lines of her weaving movements to create realistic illustrations. The next day, Ms. Xu was impressed with Fei Ni’s idea. When Feng Lin saw the design had changed, she accused Fei Ni of individualism. Episode 17
Omg, they were so cute together, full of anticipation to see each other again after a long day of work, and brought each other food from work. At this time, Fei Ni shared meatball soup, while Muyang shared fried pork cutlets.
After eating, Muyang took Fei Ni to a bookstore warehouse. His boss’s wife was the manager of this place. There were foreign books banned during the Cultural Revolution. They couldn’t read it in daylight, because they were sealed store copies. They could only come here after closing time, couldn’t tell anyone, and had to read them using flashlights.
Fei Ni won the citywide blackboard newspaper contest; she swept all the awards. They celebrated her winning with steamed crabs and drinks. By night, Fei Ni was a bit tipsy. She thanked Muyang and felt lucky having him by her side. Muyang gave Fei Ni a gift, not pricey, but he put together her fashion notebook, which was ripped to pieces by Feng Lin. Not only that, but he also drew Fei Ni wearing each of the dresses she designed! Fei Ni sobbed hard, browsing through the pages.
Muyang and Fei Ni were so happy after visiting his sister, Mujing. He said that they became more and more like a married couple, and she hugged him tightly. But their happiness didn’t last long. Once they returned home, they were confronted by Fei Ni’s angry parents, brother, and sis-in-law. They had found the marriage agreement! When they berated Fei Ni, who made the agreement, Muyang made a heartfelt public confession that he had liked her since they were in high school. When he had amnesia, he subconsciously drew her from the back. The parents were still skeptical and wanted to observe the couple for a year. Episode 18
