Recap Episodes 14 to 16
Episode 14
Wuyi didn’t die. They were transported back to the site of the prayer ceremony. While Chi Wen was thinking about the kiss, Wuyi lamented that getting the Stone was only an illusion. Watching from outside the prism, Baize and Wu Zhiqi concluded that the past couldn’t be changed.
Wuyi was surprised when Chi Wen looked at the sky and could see Hui. In ancient Chinese astronomy and the traditional lunar calendar, Hui (晦) refers to the very last day of the lunar month, specifically representing the “Dark Moon” or the period when the moon is completely unilluminated and invisible. She had only ever told Ji Ling that her moon phase was Hui. But she didn’t probe further into how Chi Wen knew if he claimed he was not Ji Ling. She told Chi Wen that only Wangyan could see her; that was why she was attached to Wangyan.
Xie Lingxi got out of the cage, walked out of the Ravine, and met Shiguang and Wangyan. He admitted he was the Star Stone or Tian Di. After the disaster, Chi Wen saved him and taught him how to control his power. To atone for his sins, there was no longer Tian Di. He became Xie Lingxi, a monk, who punished bad people. He came to the Flood Dragon Tribe to fulfill his promise to Chi Wen, to protect the little Shiguang. With that revelation, Shiguang realized that Chi Wen or the Shiling Sect had never destroyed his tribe. There must be a culprit behind the scenes. Suddenly, Wangyan knocked him unconscious! After that, she stabbed Xie Lingxi with her staff. As it happened in the past, when Wangyan dressed as a Shiling Sect member and participated in the annihilation of the Flood Dragon Tribe. However, this altered the timeline, as it was supposed to be Wangyan, not Qingyi, who killed Xie Lingxi. The timeline shifted!
Wuyi drugged Chi Wen, too. He woke up and found himself being bound. Wuyi confronted him about throwing away the realgar powder she wanted to use against their enemies. Chi Wen explains he did it to lure out the real culprit, the one who possessed Wuyi. The culprit must be Jiu Ying, the only one who could manipulate people’s hearts and possess their bodies.
In the illusion where Tian Di was, Wu Zhiqi imprisoned Tian Di and the Yan brothers. However, Yuan Wuhuo managed to free himself and Li Jie. He asked his “brother” to watch outside the Ravine for any enemy, and wanted to hack down Tian Di’s chain. However, this Yuan Wuhuo was the butterfly demon who wanted the Star Stone. Instead of freeing Tian Di, he stabbed him. Tian Di was not supposed to die. The timeline shifted, and they found out themselves (with free Tian Di) in another place with only have 30 minutes before the Meteor Blast Catastrophe!
In another illusion, Wu Zhiqi confronted Chi Wen and Wuyi again. At this time, though, Wuyi regained her power because it was a dark moon time. She fought and killed Wu Zhiqi. But the change of fate (Wu Zhiqi’s death) shifted the timeline fast towards the Hurricane Catastrophe. They found themselves fast-forwarding to the wedding ceremony, dressed in a wedding dress.
Li Jie, Yuan Wuhuo, and Tian Di were outside the camp, and someone from the Shiling Sect came, thanked the brothers, and wanted to take Tian Di. Suddenly, Li Jie saw something wrong with the Shiling Sect disciple’s neck. It seemed there was a worm inside.
Meanwhile, Shiguang and Wangyan were also time-traveled to the night before the Great Freeze Catastrophe. Shiguang knew that at this time, Xie Lingxi would leave to rescue him and die. The Flood Dragon Clan would be wiped out. Shiguang saw Wu Zhiqi threatening Xie Lingxi by kidnapping little Shiguang, and asked him to save his brother. We saw the real past when Xie Lingxi gave the bracelet to Shiguang before he died.
Chi Wen and Wuyi couldn’t do anything but go through their wedding. When they were quite close, he put something inside the pouch she carried. After that, they had to go through the ceremony. However, when it was time to kiss the bride, Chi Wen kissed Wuyi’s forehead instead. After kissing, Di Zhu’s father wanted to give them the Star Stone. Wuyi told the Little Nine to come out of Chi Wen’s sleeve instead. The little snake changed to a three-headed big snake, and then there was a blast. Everyone died but Chi Wen and Wuyi, and they saw Wu Zhiqi holding the Star Stone box.
Episode 15
Shiguang and Wangyan rushed back to the tribe and witnessed the clan members being massacred by the impostors from the Shilin Sect. In a hurry, Shiguang’s love bracelet fell, and Wangyan retrieved it. Suddenly, the whole area was blanketed by Frost Spell from the Formless Moon Sect. Shiguang was shocked to see “Wangyan” on the rooftop. Wangyan, by his side, revealed the biggest secret she had kept, being involved in the massacre. To atone for her sin, she fought “Wangyan,” but of course, she didn’t have power. Shiguang channeled the Dragon Deity Power to fight “Wangyan”. This impostor thought Shiguang was the person she was looking for, but this Shiguang didn’t have a dragon birthmark, as he was Cang Hao now. Both Shiguang and Wangyan realized that “Wangyan” was Jiu Ying!
What happened during the real event between Xie Lingxi and Wu Zhiqi, who kidnapped little Shiguang? Xie Lingxi went to find the two and explained to Wu Zhiqi that the curse of his petrified clan cannot be undone. Wu Zhiqi wanted to kill Shiguang, but Xie Lingxi attacked him.
Li Jie caught the fake Shiling Sect member and interrogated him. The guy admitted that Jiu Ying had her subordinates, the Six-Eyed Butterflies, planted pupae inside them. They could only obey. Wu Zhiqi would give the Star Stone he asked the Yan brothers to steal to Jiu Ying. However, the Star Stone didn’t destroy humanity, but to make humans and demons destroy each other. For example, with humans killed Wu Zhiqi’s brother to incite the war between the Green Ape Clan and humans.
Last time, when the Dragon Deity’s sons fought over Jiu Ying, they became mountains and sealed her. However, Jiu Ying already scattered her fragments across the world. As long as any fragment remained, Jiu Ying couldn’t die. However, Jiu Ying knew that Chi Wen, as the Dragon Deity, could kill Chi Wen and her 81 fragments. That was why Jiu Ying was looking for Shiguang, the only survivor from the Flood Dragon Tribe, to kill Chi Wen. Because only a dragon could fight a dragon.
The newly married couple chased the young Wu Zhiqi, who stole the Star Stone. But first things first, Chi Wen had to confront Wuyi, or to be exact, the Jiu Ying who possessed Wuyi. Chi Wen had long suspected Jiu Ying possessed Little Nine, because it was Wuyi’s pet snake. Later, Jiu Ying also possessed Wuyi. Jiu Ying explained that she had been a venomous snake egg waiting to be hatched. One day, the meteorite Star Stone fell from the sky, and the heat hatched the egg. Jiu Ying absorbed the Stone’s power and became a demon. It bit Di Zhu and fed on the Star Stone. Later, Jiu Ying found another food: humans’ fear, despair, and hatred. With them Jiu Ying had grown nine heads and withs their multiplications: 81 heads.
The fake Shiling Sect member showed the Yan brothers and Tian Di a glowing worm given by the Six-Eyed Butterflies to put inside Tian Di. It would make Tian Di go berserk and cause a big explosion. The Yan brothers killed the Shiling Sect impostor and Yuan Wuhuo crushed the glowing worm. That caused two Six-Eyed Butterflies who had confronted Wu Zhiqi to take him as their hostage, and came to find Tian Di and the Yan brothers.
The Six-Eyed Butterflies threatened Tian Di to kill his bestie, Wu Zhiqi. Tian Di exploded himself to free Wu Zhiqi, so the butterflies flew away. Tian Di became a stone. Li Jie wanted to retrieve it, so he could go out of the illusion. However, his “brother” turned out to be the butterfly demon from modern times, Yuan Wu Huo. The demon killed poor Li Jie, who would never know his origin. When Li Jie died, Yuan Wuhuo saw the flashes of Li Jie/Yuan Xi Zai and Ji Ling together, and he shed tears. Later, the old Wu Zhiqi explained to Bai Ze that Yuan Wuhuo followed him secretly and sneaked into the prism when his Star Stone and Shiguang’s beads collided.
In the illusion, Xie Lingxi rescued the little Shiguang and took him to the old Shiguang and Wangyan. Seeing this, the fake Wangyan wanted to take the boy. Shiguang asked Xie Lingxi to take the boy away, chased by the demonic forces. He made a clone of the boy and ran away. But Xie Lingxi was dying, so he gave his beads to little Shiguang.
Chi Wen fought Jiu Ying, but Chi Wen couldn’t bear to hit Wuyi’s body. Seeing Chi Wen was losing, Wuyi woke up and stab herself with ice pick, so the demon left her. Jiu Ying went into Wu Zhiqi and caused the Hurricane Catastrophe. The Star Stone got buried quickly, Chi Wen and Wuyi couldn’t retrieve it.
Outside the illusion, the old Wu Zhiqi and Bai Ze tried hard to protect the Star Stone, but Yuan Wuhuo got out of the illusion after killing Li Jie and took the Star Stone. He sucked Wu Zhiqi’s Dragon Deity’s Power. Luckily, Chi Wen and Wuyi managed to find the Star Stone and got out, too. They stayed together during the hurricane. However, after getting out of the illusion, Chi Wen released his hands from holding Wuyi, and he was distant.
Episode 16
Huh? Yuan Wuhuo and Chi Wen were besties? It showed that Yuan Wuhuo got old and sick, and Chi Wen thought he had died. Chi Wen was surprised that Yuan Wuhuo had been reborn, young and handsome again, and had joined Jiu Ying. He changed the character of his name from the meaning “No Calamity” (源无祸) to “No Gain” (源无获).
Yuan Wuhuo explained that, besides Chi Wen’s Spirit-Binding Ring, the other half of Spirit-Storing Jade had been sealed in Mist-Blood Cave. He went there and took the jade to turn it into his magical butterfly. He used it to seize the Dragon Deity’s Power from Wu Zhiqi. Chi Wen still believed Jiu Ying forced him, but Yuan Wuhuo wanted to take Chi Wen down. After Yuan Wuhuo left, Chi Wen used Wuyi’s own Formless Moon Palace power to tie her up in the Ruined Sand.
The situation with Shiguang and Wangyan was heartbreaking. They couldn’t escape the Great Freeze Catastrophe. However, they found each other and were relieved that the little Shiguang was safe. Wangyan asked Shiguang for another favor, which he readily agreed to, even though he didn’t know what it was. She asked him not to hate her (for participating in his tribe’s massacre). They held hands and put their foreheads together when the frost consumed them.
We still had You Chi, who was looking for another way to open the portal to the illusion realm using Shiguang blood. He went to the place where he stored old items of Shiguang, which turned out to be the place where Xie Lingxi gave the bracelet to little Shiguang and died. Shilin Sect demon hunters Jin Zheng and Hua Qi were with him to guard along the way. When You Chi finally opened the portal, Jin Zheng went to find Li Jie, Hua Qi, for Shiguang and Wangyan. Luckily, Li Jie didn’t die but was badly wounded.
You Chi, who was left outside the portal, was confronted with “Xie Lingxi” who wanted to close the portal. He was actually a fragment of Jiu Ying. You Chi, who was weak, got help from his father and Shiguang’s master, You Guai. Although they managed to kill Jiu Ying’s fragment, You Guai died protecting You Chi, right at the time that the demon hunters and our adventurers in the illusion realms returned.
Jin Zheng and Hua Qi parted ways with the rest. They had to take Li Jie to the Shiling Sect. Hua Qi commented that there were still three fragments of Jiu Ying left. Phew, luckily not 81 or we would need Season 2! Before Shiguang and Wangyan left with the mourning You Chi, the last remaining power of Xie Lingxi showed up and revealed the shocking background of Shiguang: he was the 10th son of the Dragon Deity and Chi Wen’s younger brother! His nine brothers peeled their scales to create the Dragon Stone. Xie Lingxi had witnessed his birth and had protected him through his blood inside the bracelet. His clan’s demise was because Jiu Ying had hunted him down. She wanted to use Shiguang to kill his own brother!
Xie Lingxi explained that the first Dragon Deity’s Power had awakened inside Shiguang. There are four stages of awakening: scales, claws, horns, and eyes, manifested through the petals on Shiguang’s forehead. Xie Lingxi took Shiguang back to Ruined Sand to get the second power. Wuyi, Baize, and Wu Zhiqi were still there. Wu Zhiqi thought that Xie Lingxi had come to release his clansmen. Xie Lingxi regretfully confessed that he had lied all this time to give Wu Zhiqi a hope to live. The petrification couldn’t be undone. Before death, Wu Zhiqi asked Baize for Chi Wen to destroy his clansmen’s statues to relieve them from the pain. Xie Lingxi finally disappeared and turned into a Star Stone in Shiguang’s hand.
Chi Wen left Wuyi to hunt down Yuan Wuhuo. Chi Wen used the borrowed power from Xiao Wei to fight Yuan Wuhuo, but his so-called bestie trapped him in that place. The Blackwater River, the same place where Wu Zhiqi attempted to kill himself, absorbed Chi Wen. Luckily, Chi Wen’s dormant power helped him subdue Yuan Wuhuo and reclaim the Spirit-Storing Jade in Yuan Wuhuo’s hand. However, the power didn’t go to his Spirit-Binding Ring!
