Introduction

Finally, we come to the end of The First Frost ( 难哄 ), thus the last part of this article series, too. In The First Frost: Drama Recap Episodes 17 to 24, we read about the ups and downs of Sang Yan and Wen Yi Fan’s relationship. With eight more episodes to cover, how will the drama end? Will the couple get their deserved happy ending? Let’s check it out!

Note: I purposely picked the couple’s high school picture for this article. Throughout the drama, we see flashbacks of their relationship during high school years, especially at the beginning of every episode. We are convinced that their love has bloomed since that time. In China, teenage students are discouraged from dating. Even if two people like each other, they have to suppress their feelings and can only continue in college. Sang Yan and Wen Yi Fan’s love has bloomed and continued for nine years, and longer.

Drama Recaps Episodes 25 to 32

Episode 25

No matter where you are, I’ll find you.

The more Sang Yan searches for Yi Fan, the more he understands what Yi Fan has gone through. She is like a bird trapped in an invisible cage. Sang Yan feels sad. In the past six years, Yi Fan had swallowed too much pain alone. As she decides to leave, she wants to bear everything alone and not want him to endure the pain.

Now we find out what happened back then. This is just a summary of the despicable past events, although there is no rape but no need to watch these parts if you don’t want to. When the crazy guy moves in with Yi Fan’s aunt, he harrassed Yi Fan. Sang Yan was the only warm sun in Yi Fan’s life. They agreed to attend Nanwu University together. That guy kept trying to assault her, to the point that she jumped down her room window. With her sprained ankle she reported to the police. There is a rape attempt charge, but her aunt and her mom defended the guy.

A half-year passes by. Yi Fan never answers Sang Yan’s calls. Luckily, Xiang Lang spots her in Hong Kong and calls Qiao Qiao. Sang Yan’s longing for Yi Fan increases day by day. One day, he sees that guy harassing a female customer at Overtime. Sang Yan and that guy embroil in a fight.

Episode 26

This time, I won’t break the promise

Back then, Yi Fan had nowhere to go after reporting her uncle. A kind female police officer took her home to meet her family. Her daughter went to Yihe University. Yi Fan thought he was not worthy of being with Sang Yan, so she changed the college application from Nanwu University to Yihe University. She wanted to go to a place where no one knew her and start over.

Xiang Lang meets with Sang Yan to inquire about what happened to him and Yi Fan. Sang Yan doesn’t know why Yi Fan left him. Xiang Lang suggests that it may have something to do with her aunt’s brother. Finally, Xiang Lang says he saw a Yi Fan’s look-alike in Hong Kong. Sang Yan flies to Hong Kong. Unfortunately, she had moved away from the place where Xiang Lang saw her. Poor Sang Yan, for days he combs Hong Kong for Yi Fan to no avail. And of course, as dramas usually do, there are near-miss scenes between Sang Yan and Yi Fan.

Of course, by the end of the drama, it needs to add another love rival for poor Sang Yan. Yi Fan meets A Sen, a young guy who runs a dance class for kids. With the help of A Sen, Yi Fan puts on dance shoes again to help him teach the children ballet. She also applies for graduate courses and teaches classes while working.

Hao An begs his Grandma to use her connections in Hong Kong to find Yi Fan. Her friend working at the university finds Yi Fan. Hao An and Qiao Qiao go to Hong Kong first without telling Sang Yan to make sure the person is Yi Fan. After reuniting with Qiao Qiao and Hao An, Yi Fan decides evasion is not the best way to solve the problem. She calls the crazy guy and leaves him a message. She says she is no longer afraid of him and challenges him to come to Hong Kong, and she will make him deserve the crime.

Episode 27

Finally, a reunion between Yi Fan and Sang Yan! Hopefully, this is the last one! I don’t want to describe further their heartbreaking but full of promises reunion. You just gotta watch it to feel them. I’m exhausted with this couple!

Finally, a proper kissing scene!

Yi Fan is back working at Nanwu TV station. During work, Yi Fan also had a chance to meet the former police officer who had helped her when she was in high school.

Episode 28

I want a second chance, if there is one

While at the police station, Yi Fan meets a young woman who is her cousin’s wife. The despicable man also wanted to rape her but luckily was found by his sister. Her mother-in-law berated her brother about almost having to bury another woman for him. Yi Fan’s cousin-in-law recorded the convo and now is going to report it to the police. The police arrested the aunt, but her brother escaped. He goes lurking to Nanwu. Sang Yan, who is picking up Yi Fan, sees him. After calling the police, they fight and the man has a knife. Sang Yan is injured, luckily just scratches. He is happy that finally, he brought that man to jail.

Episode 29

Love means being each other light

Finally, Yi Fan’s aunt and her brother’s crimes are brought to justice, especially since they killed a woman after he raped her. I feel bad for the father of the victim, who quarreled with his daughter on the fated night. The man is sentenced to the death penalty for murder, rape, and forced molestation. His sister, Yi Fan’s aunt is sentenced to three years in prison for being an accomplice, destroying the evidence. It also ends Yi Fan’s nightmares.

Sang Yan asks if Yi Fan still wants to dance. She says it’s meaningful to be a journalist since she can contribute to social fairness and justice. Dancing will be a hobby. Her boss asks her if you want to play in a dance program. Sang Yan participates with her.

Episode 30

Relying: Trusting you in weakness, chosen by you firmly

The flashback on the day of Yi Fan’s father’s death is so heartbreaking!

Yi Fan is approached by her mother and she tells Yi Fan that her husband has a mistress. Yi Fan feels her mother is as selfish as before when she left her dad dying at that time. She leaves her mother. San Yang meets her on the way and she asks him to carry her. Lying on Sang Yan’s back, she feels inexplicable peace of mind. She’s grateful to Sang Yan for his care and cries flowed to Sang Yan’s neck.

Hao An finally gets closure from his parent and brother’s death when he, his grandparents, and Qiao Qiao travel to the crash site.

Yi Fan gives Sang Yan a surprise by dancing ballet at the TV station’s party (he thought she would sing). When watching her, his mind goes back to the past when he helped her practice ballet.

Episode 31

Loving you, from the first day to forever

Awww, it’s love at first sight indeed for Sang Yan! On the first day of high school, he saw Yi Fan running into the campus. To attract her attention, he borrowed a basketball and showed off his skill in front of her. She didn’t know where her class was so she asked him, calling him “senior”. She was in the same grade as him, but he pretended to know the school in and out and gave her the direction.

The Chinese New Year celebration at Sang Yan’s parents’ house is meaningful for Yi Fan. His parents like Yi Fan very much. They knew she was the girl from high school. Over the years Yi Fan has changed Sang Yan for good. Hearing their stories about Sang Yan’s suffering after they were separated she feels guilty she had hurt him much. Later, they make it up with a passionate kiss in his room.

Episode 32

I want someone who is fierce and will love me until death. It’s you.

Their high school has a 100th-anniversary celebration event. Many alumni visit the campus and recall their memories, including Sang Yan, Yi Fan, Hao An, and Qiao Qiao. Sang Yan and Yi Fan remember their first day in class when they arrived late together and Yi Fan found out he was not a senior at all. They were appointed as deskmates in the back. Yi Fan introduced her name and nickname which means “first frost” and her hobby is dancing. Sang Yan introduced his name and emphasized he couldn’t dance. He drew two dots on the blackboard ingeniously, saying that he wanted to emphasize two points, which made everyone laugh. The teacher added that the two points are friendship and academic grades.

Sang Yan changes to a school uniform and moves the blackboard showing the next layer. The writing with a heart is of Yi Fan’s favorite novel passages called “Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit” by Jeanette Winterson. Hao An and Qiao Qiao show up, also in school uniforms, and sit in the middle of class. A video plays with messages from their former teachers, classmates, friends, and Sang Yan’s mother wishing them happiness. After the video ends, Hao An hands them a music box with a ballerina inside and a ring. Sang Yan wants to play the music box but there is no battery, lol! He then just proposes to Yi Fan. The two kiss and Hao An pulls Qiao Qiao out to give the two privacy. The End.

The ending is so sweet and cute!

Conclusion

What a whirlwind of romance, full of ups and downs, laughter, and (mostly) tears. I’m glad is finally over and it ends happily. Hopefully, you enjoy these recap articles!
