Synopsis

Growing up, Gong Yeon Su was told to follow traditional values while searching for her future husband. Yeon Su prefers to date seriously and is not interested in having sex before marriage. When she meets Dokgo Dal, the founder and CEO of a company specializing in adult pleasure products, she initially plans to keep everything fully professional. The more time they spend together, the more they realize that there’s chemistry between them – but Dal isn’t interested in dating, preferring no-strings-attached sex instead, which puts them at odds with each other. As the pair tries to navigate their differences, they challenge each other to see love from a new perspective. Can two people with fundamentally opposite views on love and romance find common ground? Characters

Main Characters

Nam Ji Hyun (남지현) as Kong Yeon Su

The eldest daughter of a traditional family that holds 22 ancestral rites a year. With a firm belief that there is a proper order to love, marriage, and sex, she has spent her life guarding herself and maintaining strict boundaries. Yet, the client she ends up being in charge of is the CEO of a sex toy company. In the midst of the constant clash of values, the once-solid lock on her ‘Confucian World’ finally begins to come undone.

Kim Jae Yeong (김재영) as Dokgo Dal

The CEO of the premium sex toy startup ‘Loand.’ Even though he respected preferences, he thoroughly excluded the inefficiency called ‘love’ from his life until the Confucian girl marketer, who proclaimed that love was everything, barged in. The one and only exception that broke into his flawless world. For the first time in my life, he is afflicted with the most inefficient fever of emotions.

Review

What I Liked

The unusual storyline

I like that the drama isn’t afraid to tackle the sex subject that many romance or romcom dramas would normally avoid. Specifically, the adult-products business gives the story a fresh and slightly cheeky angle.

A little more substance than expected

Beneath the usual comedic romance, there’s a more in-depth message about women’s independence, family expectations, personal choices, and the freedom to define love for yourself.

Opposites-attract romance

Yeon Su and Dal have completely different ideas about love and sex, but that’s exactly what makes their interactions entertaining. Their arguments are sometimes more interesting than their romantic moments!

Nam Ji Hyun’s performance

The actress does a lovely job portraying Yeon Su’s innocence, awkwardness, curiosity, and gradual transformation. Her facial expressions and comedic timing are particularly enjoyable.

Kim Jae Young’s charm

Dal may come across as cool, blunt, and emotionally unavailable, but there’s more to him than meets the eye. His character has a lonely side that makes him surprisingly appealing.

Good chemistry

The leads have a fun dynamic. Their bickering, teasing, and growing curiosity about each other make the romance enjoyable to follow.

What I Didn’t Like As Much

The sex premise could have been explored more deeply

The adult-products business is an interesting backdrop, but sometimes it feels like the drama could have done much more with it.

A little too much repetition

Yeon Su and Dal’s disagreements about love and physical intimacy can become repetitive. After a while, I wanted the characters to move beyond discussing their differences and actually find their similarities and develop their relationship.

Some family issues feel frustrating

Yeon Su’s traditional family expectations can be exhausting to watch. Although they serve a purpose in the story, some conflicts could have been handled better.

The romance could use more development

There are cute moments and sparks between Yeon Su and Dal before they officially become a couple, but I would have liked more natural romantic development and sweet moments rather than relying so much on their contrasting personalities.

My Rating

I used my rating system with additional scores of:

  • + 0.5 for the interesting premise of sex education
  • + 0.5 for the feeling-good romance
  • + 1.0 for the characters and acting
  • + 0.5 for the production value

Total rating 8.5/10.

Conclusion

Make Me Tingle is a refreshing rom-com that dares to be different. It takes a rather unconventional subject and turns it into a story about two people learning to understand themselves and each other.

What I particularly appreciate is that the drama doesn’t necessarily say one person’s view of love is right and the other’s is wrong. Instead, it encourages us to understand that people have different experiences, beliefs, and needs.

It’s not necessarily a groundbreaking romance, and I do think the story could have pushed its interesting premise further. Still, Nam Ji Hyun and Kim Jae Young make a charming pairing; Yeon Su and Dal’s contrasting personalities provide plenty of amusing moments.

Would I recommend it? Yes, especially if you enjoy lighthearted romantic comedies with a slightly unconventional storyline, a little cheekiness, and characters who slowly learn to step outside their comfort zones.
