Episode 31
During the ball match, a frightened horse rushed towards Jingyuan in the middle of the crowd. Everyone fled in panic, but Fang Xianye rushed to protect her. He was no match for the stampeding horse, so Simu stepped in to stop the horse. While in the medical tent, Wang Suyi’s cheesy brother, Wang Qi, approached Jingyuan. Xianye rescued her, and Simu teased Jingyuan. Simu observed that Xianye really liked Jingyuan. Otherwise, as a scholar, how could he risk his life to protect her?
Wang Qi didn’t stop there, though. Wang Qi kidnapped Jingyuan. He claimed the Duan family owed him for his sister’s kidnapping and demanded that she marry him to save face. He wanted to rape Jingyuan, fortunately, Simu appeared in time. She used her power to punish Wang Qi and sent Jingyuan back home. Jingyuan finally found out that Simu was a spirit from her brother.
Duan Xu went to see Simu to thank her. Simu had to go back to Void to handle official duties after being out for so long. Duan Xu was planning to mobilize troops in three days, asked for her counsel on where to go, and Simu suggested Shenzhou. He also asked her to stay with him for three days before he goes.
Episode 32
After spending time with Duan Xu for three days, Simu returned to Void. She went to see Bai Sanxing first and used the bracelet created together with Feng Yi to control Bai Sanxing. Simu learned from Jiang Ai that Yan Ke had often traveled between the Void and Shuozhou. That was where Duan Xu was stationed, so Simu was suspicious of Yan Ke. She intentionally punished Yan Ke to prevent his future visit with fifty lashes and ten days of confinement.
The spiritual world was also involved in the war between the Great Liang and North Chong. This was because Yan Ke was ambitious and controlled Lu Da to do his dirty work in the mortal world. When Simu went to Shuozhou, she saw bad spirits following Chengying on his way to delivering strategic maps to Duan Xu. Simu eliminated them. Missing Duan Xu, she disguised herself as a servant sent to serve Duan Xu. But he sensed her immediately. She gave him an amulet. If he were in danger, he could call her.
Han Lingqiu, Duan Xu’s subordinate, was severely wounded and held hostage by the North Chong. Duan Xu went alone to rescue Han Lingqiu. However, Lu Da, under Yan Ke’s control, instigated Mu’ertu to ambush Duan Xu. Mu’ertu was Duan Xu’s former boss in the All Knowing. Duan Xu couldn’t fight Mu’ertu because, as the boss, Mu’ertu was more powerful, and Duan Xu had to carry the wounded Han Lingqiu.
Luckily, Simu sensed something was wrong with Duan Xu, so she came right away. Seeing Duan Xu’s dire condition, Simu was very angry and killed Mu’ertu. Well, that was a no-no according to the Void law, so she turned herself in during the Void court meeting. She was punished by Yan Ke, but before that, she handed Jiang Ai the bracelet to control Bai Sanxing. After the severe punishment, Simu was extremely weak and needed to recuperate. To the surprise of everyone, instead of delegating her power to Yan Ke, she handed it over to Jiang Ai.
Episode 33
Yan Ke pretended to take care of Simu, whose power was completely drained from the punishment. In fact, he imprisoned her with his secret technique. This barrier absorbed Simu’s restorative power, so she was always on her minimal power. Yan Ke wanted to take over the Void, so he forged Simu’s decree that accused Jiang Ai of embezzling the Void’s treasury and replaced the temporary leadership with Yan Ke. Moreover, the false decree also stated that Simu would be in seclusion for five years.
Jiang Ai knew this was Yan Ke’s plot, but she couldn’t reach Simu. To fight Yan Ke, Jiang Ai went into hiding, and her premises, Xuling Palace, were empty. She realized that Simu gave her the bracelet for a reason and went to confront Bai Sanxing. She told Bai Sanxing that Simu gave him a second chance to redeem himself.
Now that there was no Simu, nor Jiang Ai, Yan Ke was in full control. He lifted the curfew and introduced a free Void without the old rules established by Simu. Chaos everywhere, as the Void citizens were fighting with each other.
In the mortal world, Han Lingqiu recuperated and, finally, regained his painful memories in the All Knowing Sect. He resigned from the military and Duan Xu let him go. Over the following months, Duan Xu fought hard and recaptured Jingzhou and Qizhou, and was granted the title of Marquis Ningyi for his merits.
Duan Xu was very concerned because he could not contact Simu. In her prison, Yan Ke tried to win her heart by giving lavish gifts and destroyed Duan Xu’s gifts. Simu mocked him because she knew he was ambitious for power, not love. After knowing that Duan Xu was wounded in a battle, Yan Ke went to the mortal world to kill Duan Xu, but was injured by the Deliverance Sword. Feng Yi appeared in time to protect Duan Xu, but he himself was extremely weak. After the duel with Yan Ke, he fled, and Feng Yi collapsed. Duan Xu took the chance to ask Feng Yi if he had heard from Simu. Feng Yi lied that Simu was very busy with the Void affair.
Alone with Ziji, Feng Yi mentioned that it was his duty appointed by his ancestors. Feng Yi had observed the unrest among spirits and the lack of response from the Great Ancestor. Everything was a sign of the arrival of a “Great Calamity” foretold in ancient texts.
Episode 34
Things also worsen on the battlefield between the Great Liang and North Chong. Duan Xu and his subordinates observed that the North Chong’s soldiers fought like they were invincible. It turned out that Lu Da, his former colleague-turned-North Chong’s High Priest, created a special poison to numb the soldiers’ senses. They didn’t feel the pain and fought until death. Duan Xu also missed Simu deeply. Five years had passed, and he had regained four states. But no news from the Void.
Yan Ke kept giving gifts to Simu, and she kept rejecting them. She said she liked living things. Yan Ke brought back small, cute animals and flowers from the mortal world. Of course, they were all dead once they were in the Void. Yan Ke noticed that among Duan Xu’s gifts to Simu was the furry rabbit pendant. He used his power to conjure a living rabbit, which Simu liked. Watching this, Yan Ke kept creating flowers and butterflies for Simu. Secretly, Simu drained his power from conjuring living things.
Meanwhile, Jiang Ai and Bai Sanxing were hiding deep in the Void Mountain, while she helped him to regain his power. Watching how chaotic the situation was in the lawless Void now, Bai Sanxing acknowledged that the realm was the most peaceful when Simu was the leader. Soon, Yan Ke tracked down Jiang Ai and Bai Sanxing. The Void’s spirit stone reserves were nearly depleted, so he demanded Jiang Ai’s Left Hand Token. To save Bai Sanxing, Jiang Ai threw her Token and ran away with Bai Sanxing.
From Yan Ke and Bai Sanxing’s meeting, Simu heard that Yan Ke was the one who killed her father 300 years ago. Bai Sanxing happened to be a witness, so Yan Ke framed him. With her power returned and Yan Ke’s weakened, Simu could fight him. Unfortunately, Yan Ke stole her Glazed Pagoda, her secret weapon, and ran away.
After Yan Ke ran away to the mortal world, the first thing Simu did was to restore the Void in order. When the situation was normal again, she went to see Duan Xu. He was withered down, from the battle, longing Simu, and his five senses, which were gradually depleting. They hugged tightly, and Simu reassured him that she was safe.
Episode 35
Simu told Duan Xu the reason why she delayed in seeing him: Yan Ke’s rebellion in the Void. She still had to return to the Void to make plans to capture Yan Ke. Duan Xu exchanged the sense of taste and brought her food and wine. She ate until full. Shen Ying, who was a teenager now, and Feng Yi, joined the feast.
Simu returned the sense of taste to Duan Xu and then left for the Void. Duan Xu received the backlash of the sense exchange and vomited blood. Feng Yi checked his condition and suggested for him not exchange senses anymore if he wanted to live a long life.
Yan Ke ran to North Chong and controlled the High Priest, Lu Da, to poison Duan Xu. Duan Xu, whose physical condition deteriorated because of the sense exchange backlash, was bleeding profusely. Although she was in the Void, Simu had a bad feeling about Duan Xu, so she asked Feng Yi about Duan Xu’s condition. Feng Yi told her the truth about the sense backlash.
Simu went to confront Lu Da and demanded the antidote to the poison. Lu Da demanded her Spiritual Lantern for the exchange. Simu knew Lu Da was controlled by Yan Ke. After that, she went to her parents’ graves and lamented why everyone wanted to be the Sovereign of Spirits. They had to sacrifice everything, and she didn’t want to sacrifice Duan Xu. She decided to give the Spiritual Lantern and prayed that her parents would bless her without the Lantern.
Simu decided to say farewell to Duan Xu, because of his deteriorating condition. She found out that Duan Xu had experience deteriorating of his senses five years ago. He offered to exchange with the last sense: hearing, but Simu said she didn’t need it anymore. What was not truly hers would never be hers. With those last words, she broke up with him.
Episode 36
Yan Ke got the Spiritual Lantern through Lu Da, but of course, he couldn’t use it. Last time, the Lantern chose Simu to be the Sovereign of Spirits despite many spirits chasing after it. How could Yan Ke easily control the Lantern? To force Simu to activate the Spiritual Lantern, Yan Ke kidnapped Duan Xu.
While Duan Xu was kidnapped, the enemy invaded. Chen Ying requested that General Wu send him as the vanguard. The battle was fierce, and Chen Ying defended the flag and was hit by several arrows. When he was dying, he called Simu. She heard it and immediately went to the battlefield. She saw Shen Ying dead and remembered their memories together. Later, she buried him next to his father’s grave and conjured paper butterflies for him, as she did when his father died.
Noticing that Duan Xu was missing from the battlefield, Simu suspected that Yan Ke had kidnapped Duan Xu. When she found Yan Ke, he trapped her inside the Glazed Pagoda. Yan Ke forced Duan Xu to exchange the senses with her using the blessed flower. Yan Ke knew when that happened, Simu lost her spiritual power. When Duan Xu tried it, the blessed flower did nothing.
Duan Xu said that because Simu was trapped in the Glazed Pagoda. Yan Ke had to use the Spiritual Lantern. In the past, Simu infused her blood into the Lantern, so her life was in it. Duan Xu planned to snatch the Lantern from Yan Ke. Yan Ke took out the Lantern, but suddenly it was snatched by Lu Da. He swallowed the Lantern. But a mortal couldn’t withstand the magical artifact, and it attacked Lu Da. Before Lu Da died, Yan Ke quickly took him away. Simu broke the Glazed Pagoda trap and rescued Duan Xu.
Simu took Duan Xu back to the military camp and asked Fen Ying to take care of him. She told Duan Xu the real reason she broke up with him. She worried that the sense exchange eventually would cost Duan Xu his life. He would leave her, and she couldn’t accept his death. Before leaving, Simu told Duan Xu about the death of Chen Ying, and that she had buried him next to his father.
