While it demands a heavy dose of suspension of disbelief, its sheer entertainment value and magnetic main-couple chemistry make it impossible to look away.

What I Like
Su Li, the amnesiac queen
Su Li completely flips the script on the classic amnesia trope. When a car accident leaves her mistaken for a submissive daughter-in-law named Gu Qingmei, she doesn’t just sit there and take the family’s bullying. Instead, she uses her sharp instincts as an investigative journalist to start tearing their corrupt business apart from the inside. She’s smart, fiercely defensive, and always a few steps ahead of her enemies.

Zhao Xixi’s acting
Honestly, it’s one of the best parts of the show. Zhao Xi Xi is so fun to watch because she has to play two completely different personas. Even when she’s not Gu Qingmei, but Su Li pretended to be Gu Qingmei. One minute she’s putting on this quiet, submissive, “innocent daughter-in-law” act to keep her enemies off-guard, and the next, her eyes completely narrow and you see the fierce, calculating journalist take over.
In a short drama, you don’t have time for long, dramatic monologues to inform the audience. In this drama, Zhao Xi Xi kills it with her micro-expressions—a quick smirk, a sharp side-eye, or a tiny tilt of her head is all she needs to let the audience know she’s secretly running the room.
The Romance: Partners-in-crime
In the beginning, the relationship dynamic between Su Li and Mu Shaoze is quite interesting. We know that Su Li woke up as the Family’s daughter-in-law, although she doesn’t believe that she is Gu Qingmei. Mu Shaoze approaches the He Family as He Jinxi’s “fiancé,” because the Family wants him to be with the youngest daughter, He Jinxi. Thus, from the outside, Su Li and Mu Shaoze are like having a secret affair.
Sweet Revenge
If you love the “face-slapping” trope where the female lead stops taking nonsense and humbles toxic rich people, this show delivers 100% on that satisfaction. Although she supposedly plays a daughter-in-law with filial piety, Su Li is not a pushover.
Bloopers
I love the bloopers at the end of every episode. They humanize the cast, especially the villains. The bloopers highlight the positive off-screen relationships and camaraderie among the cast.
What Dislike
Pure Soap Opera Logic
You have to turn your brain off while watching this drama. The “identical lookalike who happens to get amnesia and perfectly switch places” premise is not the only trope that needs your suspension of disbelief. There are more, for example: Nobody in the He Family ever checks on the real Gu Qingmei’s whereabouts. They have money to hire a private detective to investigate, and yet they just accept that “Gu Qingmei” changes personality because of the auto accident/amnesia.

Inherently Kind is one of those short dramas that’s easy to get hooked on. It delivers a satisfying mix of mystery, family drama, revenge, and romance without dragging the story out. While it doesn’t reinvent the genre and relies on some familiar tropes, the strong female lead, fast pacing, and strong chemistry between the leads make it an enjoyable binge. If you’re looking for a short drama with plenty of fun moments, scheming villains, and a heroine who refuses to back down, this one is definitely worth adding to your watchlist.
