I watched Love in the Moonlight (구르미 그린 달빛) back in 2019, when I started my journey in Asian dramaland. It wasn’t the first Asian drama I had ever watched; the first one was another sageuk, Moon Embracing the Sun (해를 품은 달). But there was just something about Love in the Moonlight—the second sageuk I watched—that really stayed with me. Maybe it was the lightheartedness, the sweet romance, or just the fun chemistry between the characters. Whatever it was, I remember enjoying it so much that even years later, the drama still comes to mind whenever I think about the dramas that first got me hooked. So when I heard about Love in the Moonlight: Redrawn, the 10th-anniversary special, I was naturally curious—and very excited—to see the cast together again.

The “Gurmi”
Just to refresh your memory, or if you haven’t watched the show yet, you heard that the cast is called “Gurmi” in the show.
Firstly, the literal translation of the Korean title of the 2016 drama is “Moonlight Drawn by Clouds” (Gureumi Geurin Dalbit / 구르미 그린 달빛). “Gurmi” is simply the shortened slang or phonetic representation of the first word in the title that fans and the media use to refer to the show.
The core cast of friends in the drama are affectionately referred to by fans and Korean media as the “Gurmi Youth Five” or the “Gurmi Squad.” And here they are:

Still A Legendary Drama Couple
Park Bo Gum and Kim Yoo Jung won the Legendary Couple Award for their beloved K-drama Love in the Moonlight (구르미 그린 달빛) at the 2025 Asia Artist Awards in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The stars reunited on stage nearly ten years later, on 6 December 6, 2025, after their hit 2016 historical drama aired.
The Nostalgic Trip
Park Bo Gum, the Driving Force
During the interview, Park Bo Gum said he personally planned a trip to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Love in the Moonlight. The entire project began because of Park Bo Gum’s personal proposal to KBS2, the production company. Because the rest of the main cast members—Kim Yoo Jung, Jin Young, Chae Soo Bin, and Kwak Dong Yeon—have all become successful top stars, coordinating their busy schedules was difficult. However, out of deep affection for the drama and their fans, everyone happily agreed to Park Bo Gum’s idea and cleared their schedules for the 2-day, 1-night trip for their reunion.
Revisiting the Past
The cast revisits Hongcheon, in Gangwon Province, one of the drama’s filming locations. This place is a scenic rural area that served as a backdrop for the original series. The production team prepared some nostalgic items for the Gurmi as well as for us. For example, their character’s iconic Joseon-era costumes, the novel about which Ra On wrote on Lee Young at the end of the drama, the big umbrella Lee Young and Ra On used for their secret date to hide from the palace staff, and the love token bracelet, which are now five friendship token bracelet for them to wear.
Kwak Dong Yeon even brought the plastic sword he used for practicing as the warrior Kim Byung Yeon!
The Ultimate Nostalgia Trip
About 27,000 project ideas came up while planning the itinerary, and I am glad most of them are nostalgic. For example, cooking dinner together, with Baeksuk Chicken as the main dish. There is a scene where Lee Yeon, Ra On, and Byung Yeon had it for a meal together. Baeksuk Chicken is a traditional Korean comforting dish made by boiling a whole chicken with water, garlic, and scallions until the meat is tender and the broth is rich.
Ten years ago, Ra On made Baeksuk Chicken for Lee Young. Ten years later, You Jung helmed the cooking with the help of others.
After dinner, there was a lot more nostalgic talk, including the reenactment of the “love triangle” scene between Lee Young, Ra On, and Kim Yoon Sung. The past drama rivalry was replaced by Park Bo Gum and Jin Young sang one of the OSTs, “Misty Road” (안갯길), together. Released back in 2016, Jin Young wrote, composed, and arranged the track, which was originally sung by Ben (벤). For the 10th-Anniversary remake, Jin Young and Park Bo Gum released a special acoustic remake of the song where they both handle the vocals and arrangement. All proceeds from the remake would be donated to charity.
Unfiltered Behind-the-Scenes Stories
The 2-day, 1-night trip gives the Gurmi ample time to reminisce. They share never-before-heard production memories, look back at their iconic roles, and laugh over old bloopers and set secrets.
I wrote “Unfiltered” as the subsection title because there is no or little censorship of what they shared. For example, Kwak Dong Yeon shared that he once hated the director Kim Seong Yoon (김성윤) whom he knew prior to the drama. Dong Yeon really wanted to play Byung Yeon, but the director never called him for an audition.
A “Friend Group” Atmosphere and Effortless Chemistry
Unlike highly structured promotional talk shows, this special anniversary reality show functions like an organic vacation. Seeing the cast hang out as genuine, long-time friends provides not only nostalgia but also a sense of relief and a hopeful future for their 20th anniversary reunion.

They also hope that way, ten years later, when everyone has gotten married, they jokingly hope to live next to each other like friendly neighbors and babysit each other’s kids, lol!
Although we saw mostly the Gurmi during the show, in general, Love in the Moonlight production team, cast, and crew are also supportive with the reunion. We saw the interview with PD Kim Seong Yoon (김성윤) and Cinematography Director Kim Si Hyung (김시형) about their characters in specific scenes, and well wishes from afar by their co-actors, Lee Joon Hyuk (as Eunuch Jang Hun Nam), Jang Gwang (as Head Eunuch Han Sang Ik), and Kim Seung Soo (as King Soon Jo).
Even more, the Costume Director Lee Jin Hee (이진희), who is now a hanbok designer, and Makeup Director Park Jin Ah (박진아) came to visit them and helped them don the old costumes and apply makeup for a poster photoshoot. Also, the same photographer who shot their iconic posters back then, Lee Seung Hee 이승희, also shot the Love in the Moonlight: Redrawn poster.
The “Friendly” Cam
Besides the highly cinematic cinematography, there is self-cam footage filmed by the five actors themselves. Although some of them are dark due to the low-light setting, these rare camera-shot clips cannot be replicated. It gives us viewers the feeling of sharing precious memories with the five stars of Love in the Moonlight as old friends.

Conclusion
Watching Love in the Moonlight: Redrawn felt like catching up with old friends. It brought back so many memories of the original drama and reminded me why I loved it in the first place. Ten years later, the cast still has that same fun chemistry, and seeing them together again was honestly just heartwarming. It may be a simple reunion—only 2 days, one night, and two episodes—but for fans who have carried Love in the Moonlight in their memories all these years, it’s a sweet little trip down memory lane.
