Episode 9
Qian Fei was back to work at Hejing Securities. Firstly, her boss Fang Yun welcomed her with an odd warning. After praising her report praising on Shanlifang’s complex financial irregularities, she instructed her to ignore all financial issues at Shanlifang as if she knew nothing about them. Any problems were to be raised by Li Yifei. Although Qian Fei was full of questions, she did not dare ask further and could only nod in agreement. Qian Fei had to start from the bottom as an errand girl. She was welcomed back by her former colleagues. Only one person was transferred because of Qian Fei took over her position and accused her of backstabbing.
Li Yifei returned home and found Qian Fei not as excited as she would have been if she had gotten her job back. She blamed him for always trying to be a hero. By exposing Shanlifang’s financial problems himself, he had surely made a powerful enemy of Liao Jinshan. Li Yifei brushed her concern off. Instead, he asked Qian Fei to cook something delicious as a way of thanking him. After eating, they drank and Qian Fei once again got completely drunk. He carried her back to her room again. In her drunken state, she wrapped her arms around his neck and refused to let go. Looking at Qian Fei’s face so close to his, Li Yifei’s emotions surged. After tugging Qian Fei in, he called Jun Cheng and nervously admitted that he might really be falling in love with his landlady, hahaha.
Qian Fei told Li Yifei that now that she had also joined the company and their work was connected, it was not good for them to continue living together. Li Yifei disagreed. Roommating between men and women is very common nowadays. He thought Qian Fei was being overly conservative. He even accused her that he had just helped her get the job, and now she wanted him out. When Qian Fei reminded him that he had previously said he would move out as soon as his financial situation improved, Li Yifei showed her the balances in several of his bank accounts, all of which were pitifully low. Episode 10
Hejing Securities and Zhizhong Construction met with the senior management of Shanlifang Group. Let’s see how Qian Fei handled her ‘reunion’ with her ex-boyfriend and his new girlfriend. Her boss, who knew about her past relationship, specifically reminded Qian Fei to observe more and speak less.
After the business meeting came the banquet hosted by Shanlifang. The big boss, President Liao, had an unexpected commitment, so Vice President Liao Shiyu, his daughter, will attend instead. Once the food and drinks were served, Liao Shiyu and Wang Ruohai arrived.
It was a tense and awkward moment between the three. Although Qian Fei tried hard to hide her emotions and focused on eating, she felt deeply hurt. After lunch, Fang Yun texted Qian Fei and instructed her to toast Shanlifang’s Finance Director, Wang Ruohai. I thought she would splash her glass at Wang Ruohai, lol! Instead, she embarrassed herself by drinking her drink in one gulp after the toast. Fang Yun quickly reminded her assistant that one toast was enough because they still had to work after lunch. Li Yifei suggested replacing alcohol with tea. Qian Fei didn’t listen to either suggestion and ended up drinking several glasses in succession. Liao Shiyu pretended to compliment Qian Fei’s professionalism. Rather than politely accepting the praise, Qian Fei spoke up about Shanlifang’s current financial documentation problems, which didn’t comply with securities regulations.
A recipe for disaster!
Fang Yun was very angry but couldn’t express it openly. Liao Shiyu’s expression darkens, too. Sensing the danger, Li Yifei quickly said that those were technical issues that can be adjusted during the cooperation process and that both Zhizhong Construction and Hejing Securities would ensure Shanlifang meets all regulatory requirements for a successful listing. The banquet eventually continued, and the uncomfortable moment was temporarily brushed aside. Before leaving, Liao Shiyu, Wang Ruohai, had a little confrontation with Qian Fei, but Fang Yun quickly called her away. Back at the office, Fang Yun summoned Qian Fei and harshly criticized her. Qian Fei sincerely apologized and asked Fang Yun for another chance. At this moment, Li Yifei came and told Fang Yun that his assistant was overwhelmed with the new project and asked whether he could temporarily borrow Qian Fei while Zhizhong Construction was working with Shanlifang. Fang Yun agreed. He later advised her not to throw away a hard-earned career opportunity because of someone who was no longer worth it.
Episode 11
After work, Qian Fei had dinner with her friends Yao Jingjing and Lu Ze. Meanwhile, Li Yifei waited and waited for Qian Fei to come home and cook dinner as usual. Finally, he reluctantly heated leftovers from the refrigerator in the microwave, highlighting how accustomed he had become to her presence in his daily life.
The next morning, Li Yifei offered her a ride to work, in exchange for her washing the dishes for him, hahaha! He wanted to use disposable containers instead. She didn’t know that he was a millionaire’s son, so during the car ride, she gave him tips on saving money. She teased him for lacking basic life skills despite not actually being a rich second-generation heir. Li Yifei playfully accepted her critique and promised to work toward becoming a self-made millionaire under her guidance.
At work, Fang Yun completely ignored Qian Fei by not assigning her any work because of her behavior at the banquet. Seeing this, Li Yifei asked her whether she had any plan to deal with the problems she exposed during the banquet. Unfortunately, she didn’t. After she left, Li Yifei immediately arranged a meeting with Liao Jinshan.
Meanwhile, at a golf course, Liao Jinshan was not happy with his future son-in-law, for his failure to notice the company’s financial issues. When Li Yifei meets with Liao Jinshan, he directly apologized for the concerns raised about Shan Lifang’s financial data. Liao Jinshan didn’t blame him. He wished his daughter’s boyfriend was someone like Li Yifei were by his daughter Liao Shiyu’s side. He knew Li Yifei is the son of the wealthy Li Qiansheng, a secret Li Yifei asked him to keep.
Episode 12
Qian Fei learned that Li Yifei was a published author. Curious, she spent the night reading his book and nearly overslept the next morning. She fell asleep in Li Yifei’s car. He couldn’t bring himself to wake her, so he let her sleep a little longer in a parking garage and lets her sleep a little longer. When Qian Fei finally woke up and hurriedly got out of the car, her boss happened to see her inside Li Yifei’s car. Fang Yun had also already noticed that Li Yifei seemed to treat Qian Fei differently from everyone else. So Fang Yun called her for a talk. She told Qian Fei that she was foolish and impulsive to expose Shan Lifang’s financial problems publicly at the banquet, nearly causing the entire IPO project to collapse. Had Li Yifei not quietly taken steps behind the scenes to repair the damage, she could have caused irreparable losses to the company. However, Fang Yun was (mistakenly) suspicious that Li Yifei had merely used Qian Fei as a mouthpiece to help his company divest from the risk, leaving Hejing to clean up the mess. Fang Yun let her work under Li Yifei to learn, but firmly reminded Qian Fei that her loyalty must ultimately lie with Hejing.
That evening, Li Yifei thought that Qian Fei had already left the office. However, she was still working overtime. Determined to improve herself, she covered an entire board with project notes, diagrams, and calculations, carefully mapping out the relationships between various pieces of financial data and studying the deeper connections within the project. Since Qian Fei still hadn’t come home past midnight, Li Yifei drove back to the office to check on her.
Episode 13
Qian Fei had fallen asleep on the office sofa from exhaustion. Li Yifei woke her up and told her to go home and rest, even offering to arrange a day off for her. Qian Fei realized it was nearly five in the morning. She decided not to go home because she still had to report to Director Fang and must report her progress first thing in the morning. Li Yifei returned to his own office and spent the night sleeping on the sofa as well.
When Qian Fei woke up, it was daylight, and her coworkers had started arriving. Qian Fei ran into Fang Yun, who immediately instructed her to present her work strategy during the morning meeting. Qian Fei realized that she had never made copies or taken photos of what she had written. Li Yifei again rescued her by making copies of her plan and distributing them to everyone. Only then does Qian Fei realize that Li Yifei had quietly preserved all of her work. Her confidence returned, and she presented her analysis impressively. After the meeting, Qian Fei sought out Li Yifei to thank him. However, her attitude was noticeably distant. Soon afterward, Fang Yun instructed her to hand over all of her current data and assignments.
Li Yifei asked her why she had suddenly become so cold toward him. Qian Fei told him the truth about what Fang Yun thought about him, that he had used her. She told him that he was not as straightforward as he appeared, but calculating and strategically minded. Li Yifei responded with a bitter smile and only reminded him there was no such thing as pure innocence in that financial world. He also warned her not to let other people’s opinions turn her into a weapon against him. More importantly, he pointed out that Fang Yun was clearly sidelining her and wasting her time. Inspired by his words, Qian Fei went to see Fang Yun and raised concerns about her role and future responsibilities. Fang Yun assigned Qian Fei to work directly with him on financial reporting and analysis.
The primary supplier of the Shanlifang Hotel Group had arrived for a due diligence meeting, and since Fang Yun had an emergency, she asked Qian Fei and Li Yifei to handle it. Qian Fei was shocked to see that the new assistant to the chairman was Gui Lili, Li Yifei’s ex-girlfriend. It was too late for Qian Fei to remind Li Yifei. However, Li Yifei seemed not to be affected by the appearance of his ex. While Gui Lili feels nervous and uneasy, he remained completely professional and confidently led the discussion. After the meeting ended, Gui Lili hurriedly left. Rumor had it that she was the chairman’s new fiancée. Later, Gui Lili texted Qian Fei a message asking about Li Yifei and whether Qian Fei and Li Yifei had started dating.
Li Yifei saw that message. He grabbed Qian Fei’s phone and replied on her behalf with good things about him. As Qian Fei tried to snatch her phone back, the two accidentally collided with each other, creating yet another awkwardly intimate moment!
Episode 14
This episode was dedicated to Qian Fei and Li Yifei’s chaotic cohabitation because of their life differences.
Luo Jingjing urged her bestie to date again, even showing Qian Fei a list of potential dates. Qian Fei dismissed them all and commented that none of them was as handsome as her tenant, Li Yifei. Luo Jingjing immediately sensed that Qian Fei liked Li Yifei.
The scene where Li Yifei woke up with an urgent need and ran through Qian Fei’s room to use her bathroom without her permission was hilarious. Qian Fei fixed his clogged toilet herself.
Because Li Yifei’s car is being repaired, the two take the bus to work together. While waiting for the bus, Qian Fei bought a savory pancake from the street vendor. Li Yifei looked down at street food, so Qian Fei bought one for herself. However, he couldn’t resist the aroma and snatched it from Qian Fei, haha! The two end up sharing the same pancake.
The poor Li Yifei was super hungry on Sunday, when Qian Fei had to step out of the apartment to visit a hospitalized colleague. She came back with groceries, and Li Yifei had to help her wash vegetables if he wanted to eat. But he cleaned them sooo slow that Qian Fei joked they could only get to each the next day!
Next, Li Yifei wanted Qian Fei to clean his messy bedroom, so he hurriedly told her that there was a cockroach in his room. The supposed cockroach turned out to be little more than an excuse to get her into his room and clean the mess. Next, she put his dirty clothes into the washer. She showed him how to operate the machine. However, he didn’t bother to learn. When Qian Fei went back from grocery shopping, the apartment was flooded! She was so tired of serving this “fake rich heir” and told him to move out. Li Yifei fabricated a sob story about his family. Moved, she let him stay, but set prices for every house chore he wanted her to help with. Of course, it was not a big deal for Li Yifei!
